Ibn ʿAtā:
No person who is affflicted with sadness hears Sūrah Yūsuf except that he is comforted by it.

I heard a thing that clarified a lot for me today. In college there was an instance where an older Muslim man was harassing a younger college girl for wearing what she was wearing, and he did it in a way that really shook her up (and obviously didn’t bring any benefit.) So when we confronted the man he justified himself by quoting the Qur’an, saying you have to call to good and forbid evil.
For a long time I was never able to reconcile how this message in the Qur’an can be used to attack people. Technically, sure, encouraging someone to follow guidelines outlined by Allah in the Qur’an is “good” but I just kept thinking, there’s no way a Merciful Lord full of infinite love could have intended His message to be weaponized in such a way..
So what I heard in a talk today is this axiom: “Amr bil ma’ruf bil ma’ruf” Calling to good should bring about good. So if your version of “amr bil mar’ruf wa nahyu ‘anil munkar” (calling to good and forbidding evil) is actually causing more harm, then it is not in the realm of what the Qur’an calls towards. Calling to good should bring about good.

What I find so beautiful about time is that it’s forgiving. Time passed, you evolved and now you’re here: a better version than that of years’ past. How beautiful is that?
“One of the most powerful parts of hardship is that it makes your blessings show up so brightly. You see the beauty around you so much clearer: The spouse, the family, the friends that support you. The duas, the kindness–even the tiniest gestures–will shine more in the dark times.”

لا تبع دينك لأجل أحد
الدين أغلى من الوطن والأهل والقبيلة
عندما لم يعد بالامكان أن يعيشوا بدينهم بين قومهم
حملوا دينهم وارتحلوا به
Do not sell your religion for anybody.
Religion is dearer than your land, family and tribe.
When they couldn’t live with their religion among their people,
They carried their religion and migrated with it.
True love for Allah is when you want what Allah wants over what you want, even if you love it.
dear heart, sorry for the pain.
