❝ what if i told you... that this account is reviving! wouldja believe me? ❞

Saihara honestly didn’t know what on earth he was thinking by choosing the Ultimate Supreme Leader as a study partner, but these sort of get-togethers had become rather routine regardless. Truthfully, Ouma’s odd antics were sometimes a welcome distraction once his brain began feeling numb from too much studying. Though these… “distractions” of his often ranged anywhere from legitimately terrifying to actually entertaining, Saihara couldn’t say that they were entirely unwelcome, or that he hated them. Conversely, their study sessions seemed to be making something of a positive impact on Ouma’s grades. For now, there were no serious issues with the arrangement.

“…I suppose now’s as good as time as any for a break,” Saihara replied with a sigh of resignation, setting his pen down. There was only so much Ancient Japanese History that even Saihara’s brain was willing to absorb in one go… Although this line of questioning was pretty random. Perhaps all the talk of notorious Japanese warlords had Ouma thinking of ghosts, or something.

“Ah, the supernatural? Personally… I can’t say that I do. There’s no evidence to suggest that phenomenon such as ghosts or spirits actually exist, so as a detective… I just can’t bring myself to accept the idea, not when there’s any basis to it. Um, but there’s no evidence to suggest that these things definitely don’t exist, either. It would be disingenuous to say that it’s downright impossible, when there really is no way of knowing… And I don’t think we ever will know. Plus, I think Shinguji-kun would kill me if I made such a daring claim. Belief in the supernatural has made a massive cultural impact all over the world throughout centuries, after all… I can’t deny that.”

     the answer was quite the answer ouma had expected. it seemed that      saihara was a true detective, not believing without evidence, but still      not ruling out, again, due to lack of evidence. ouma, himself, was on       the same boat as saihara. he believed that ghosts were probably not      real, but there was always a chance!

     however, despite the opinion being one ouma could easily agree with,      it was quite a generic answer. boring. straightforward. but the comment      saihara had tacked on the end, probably with little thought,   

     that's what he wanted to hear. he could have some fun with this.

     ouma sat straight up in his chair, facing saihara. his hands moved      up to fully cover his mouth, though the smile on his face was evident      with the way the corners of his eyes curled up.

❝ saihara-chan, since you brought up the cultural impact, i have another question for you! do you happen to know kuchisaki-onna?  ❞

WHAT A NUISANCE.  for someone who she’s heard to be a great liar, he sure isn’t attempting to wipe that smug grin off his face. however, it isn’t as if she has any physical proof that he took it, and she doubts he’ll suddenly bend the second she, well, calls him a liar. therefore… ❝ ah, i see. it isn’t as if they’d write their names on the bags… how unfortunate. i had made them sweets as well… in that case, would you happen to tell me if you see two bags with karinto inside them … ? ❞  there’s a pause. he’s a child, isn’t he ? a trickster who never grew out of it.  ❝ … if you happen to find them, ❞ she pulls out her own plastic bag filled with the sweet goodies, ❝ then i could always give you my share as thanks. ❞  a sweet deal, literally. 

     the dead look that was being shot at him was quite humorous.

     he knew the older could see right through him, but she seemed      to be holding herself back, for what, ouma couldn’t tell right away.      her words were picked quite carefully, as if she was tip-toeing       around ouma to not scare him off. 

     then the sweets came out.

     ouma, had done a fair share of dealing in his life. and he knows      that candy is always the best reward. his internal debate over      whether to take the candy or not to take the candy only lasts a       few seconds in his brain.   

❝ you made the boss baby and nanami-chan karinto yourself? ah, that’s quite sweet yourself. do you commonly cook for your friends? ❞

his laugh had been harsh to some degree,  had succeeded in making kokichi ouma more of a puzzle than he already been, still amusing to him to a degree, but more so concerning.  brushing it aside it rather easily,  it’s easy to return to the state of mind that he was in previously.

and it looks like their playtime had came to an end  and had began to take on a more serious note. tone changing to fit the situation, he’s unsure if the young is actually curious as to what he meant by that,  but like him, komaeda composes his words  with an air of carefulness,  as one wrong misstep could possibly drive the ultimate leader away.

“oh, they’re perfectly right when it comes to me-i’d delve into why and wheres and whats, but i don’t think you want to hear all about my psyche now, a little mystery is fun now and again, but it’s really something you shouldn’t bother with-but treat my words as you will! either way, it’s a pleasure to meet you in reality, ouma-san. i’m komaeda nagito, the shsl luck of the seventy-seventh class. “

     the scum comment made sense.

     in a school full of self righteous dumbasses it only made sense      that those dumbasses wouldn’t particularly count ‘luck’ as a true      talent.

     with the talent and ( fake ) personality ouma up held, it was only      natural for one to assume he had the same viewpoint. that luck      was a worthless talent, as was almost every other talent at the       school. 

     of course, ouma did have quite the superiority complex, but not      to the extremities he portrayed himself to have. learning that the      elder’s talent was luck didn’t change his opinion much. ouma didn’t      feel a rushing sense ~dominance~ over komaeda. 

     instead, he felt a bit bored. the whole 'my talent makes me scum’      made him flat out bored. it was… bland. nonetheless, ouma kept      the smile on is face, and spoke with a lilt

“Eh?! I’m not in my thirties and I’m also here for a reason which is none of your business!” Yui glared at the other for the comment he made. Surely she didn’t look that old!

     she was obviously much younger than thirties, but of course,      he couldn't not make a crude joke of the such. however, ouma      was slightly curious as to what the obviously non high school      would be doing on the campus.

A lie…?!” So he was only messing with her once again. That means there was no reason for him disturbing her play at all. Just when she wanted to get a bit upset about that, the thought that maybe Kokichi only wanted to spend some time with her as friends crossed her mind. Wait, was that even possible for a prankster like him? Well, it was what Kaede wanted to believe in… for now at least. However his song-request did shock her.

 "Ouma-kun, you can’t be serious…? You shouldn’t joke about things like that! I’m sure not even you as the Ultimate Supreme Leader would listen stuff like that, right…?” Her voice was shaking a bit, then she wasn’t that sure about that. “I mean… the part about your organization being evil is just a lie, isn’t it?”

     it almost amazed ouma every time he spoke to akamatsu, with      how worried she'd get over whatever bullshit he spoke. it was      one of the more comical interacts he always had. so when she      got caught on ouma's bait, his grin reached his ears.

❝ ah, of course i don't listen to that kinda stuff! i'm a bit too busy to sit around listening to music all day, no matter how attune to my tastes it is! bossing around my thousands of members daily is far too much work to have time to listen to some murder jazz! ❞

❝ HEY!  — So it was you planting all those horrible pranks! Do you know how HARD it is for me to go after you and get rid of all of them so they don’t hurt anybody? ❞

     ouma froze for a moment, looking back at the obviously angry      teacher. however, he didn't know she had been the one who       was removing his hard work.

❝ so you're the annoying teacher! but you seem to be mistaken, as there's still many other traps i have around school! just like this one! ❞

     then, behind his back he capped the water bottle in his hands and      threw it over by the courtyard. then, he turned to the teacher with      a challenging smirk.

chiaki likely wouldn’t have even noticed he was talking to her if he hadn’t grabbed her arm. still, her reaction was delayed. her eyes didn’t leave the screen because she didn’t want to miss anything, so it was another few seconds before she finally looked up at him. with her lips slightly pursed, she tried to decipher what he’d just said.

“…that sounds like the plot of a game,” she pointed out, staring him down. in her own way, she was pointing out that he was obviously wrong, but the concept still intrigued her. it would be nice if assassins and templars were real– no, wait, it wouldn’t. but she still had a mental image of this kid doing parkour around the streets of london.

chiaki yawned, unable to stifle it. “what were you doing in london?” for now, she decided to play along.

     her indulgence into what he had said only made the smile on his face      grow. he loved to create narratives on the go, the elaborate plots he      came up with always excited him. 

     this specific story he was creating was inspired by a true story, about      his group causing trouble during their trip to london, but of course, no      story from ouma exists without a couple lies. actually, the only true       part to this story was probably that he was in london...

❝ ah, about two years ago i believe, i visited london. i went over to explore with a few friends, but we ended up encountering a very popular mafia! i got imprisoned for a number of days, and each day this young girl who said she was the boss' daughter visited me. who looked quite a bit like you! ❞

     then, spoken in fluent english, a language he adored, 

Even the ultimate pianist wasn’t able to continue playing a song if someone surprised her like that. “AH! OH jeez, Ouma-kun! You startled me!” Was the first thing she said before even registering what he just had said. “Y-you think my piano sounds like some kind of ‘screaming’?” Unforgivable! There was no better therapy for the ears than the sound of a piano. (Well, at least for Kaede.) But it’s not like it was her first time dealing with Kokichi, they were in the same class after all. “I apologize if I disturbed you in any way with your studies.” She tried to stay polite and friendly, even though this was the music room and she was allowed to play in it any time she liked. Then she suddenly raised her index finger, making her look like she wanted to teach him something: “But did you know, that there are music genres that help you concentrate? Music that is used in video-games as an example, are composed in that way, to help the brain of the player to stay focused!” If it was about music, the pianoholic knew all the unnecessary facts. “Or maybe I can play your favorite song to you right now, so you can change your mind about what the piano sounds like! Do you have a favorite genre or song, Ouma-kun?”

      ❝ hm, the studying part was a lie! ❞

     however, the second half of what she said interested him. he knew       some about what she said, as music being a way to help people      focus, as that was a given.

     but the gaming part made his head tilt. he never really thought about      it like that, that the intense music played during a key point of a game      was played to make the player focus. thinking about it, it was became      obvious. the music of the game changes the entire aura, which then      focused the player.

     that made sense. his brain also went off topic.

character development questions && accepting!

what would completely break your character?

murdering the members of DICE. when captured or imprisoned, he still manages a way to hang onto his outward facade, but when told or shown their actual death, he breaks down. 

ouma would probably become a shell of his prankster self, as it seems that all his motives for pranking and dicking around go out the window. his lies would become very transparent. i can’t really say he’d be able to dig himself out of the hole he’d dig.

what was the best thing in your character’s life?

shocking: the DICE members! they’ve been with him longer than any figures in his life, and they really feel like his family. the older members treat the youngest as their children, and they all really cherish ouma. they all have very similar personalities, and can tell each other’s lies easily.

what was the worst thing in your character’s life?

the matrons at the orphanage ouma lived at. they were abusive and demeaning, which caused ouma to talk back and start pulling the pranks DICE does. they gave him his hate for authority and the feeling to always rebel.

what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
