Ngl having special interests in series that are going into slow quality decline (3 i can think of atm) is depressing tbh... Especially for decades long lasting series because you watch what was comforting or profound (<even if its simple or made for younger audiences) morph into the antithesis of what it used to represent. Iterations are absolutely welcome, I genuinely love solid iterations and reboots, but ig when a series goes on for long enough, it eventually becomes closer and closer to drivel (art wise, story wise, etc) to appeal to mass audiences instead of embodying the distinctive aspects of the original ip.
It's probably because I gravitate towards "anti war" stories a lot but yeah it's rough to see "anti-war" stories get twisted and flanderized into "voyeuristic torture arcs" or "aaaactually the oppressed should just forgive the oppressors happily ever after :)" when that was never the point nor should it ever be the point of such series.
I enjoy a good amount of adult mature story telling series, but genuinely the family friendly series always resonated with me because it felt accessibile to all audiences. Anyone can enjoy family friendly series (ie, PG to T for Teen), and it's really cool to see all the different perspectives about that series bc of that. It's awesome to grow up alongside such a series and get to see the communities around it, anyone new fan or long time fan, young fan or old fan, a fan from across the globe and a fan in your area, fans from all backgrounds, enjoy what you enjoyed, find meaning an sincerity in something goofy and fun, it's just such pure feel good art. Plus in those sorts of media, the characters are usually very fable esque and abstracted, which is a very fun artistry for how characters are writen and designed and animated and voice acted.
Not much to say beyond just venting frustration ig. Atleast I will always have good ol reliable special interests, kinetics and biology to keep me occupied.
