Type Crime

Oh yes you are. Had this been more emphasised, they could have gone away with it as a typographic pun. But it isn’t so they didn’t.

Now this is a common occurrence in Malta. Valletta is the capital city and as you can imagine, the name is used very often. Hotels are named after it, ports, events, you name it. Luckily bad kerning on the word itself is not as common but you can still spot it once in a while, just like this 36 feet boat docked at Ta' Xbiex harbour. For once I saw a 30+ feet boat that I didn't wish to own. 

Apologies if you don’t understand what’s written in this image but it’s not really that important anyway and it might make it easier to spot the crimes. This was thrown on Facebook to advertise a new TV series which is currently being shown on Maltese TV. 

This possibly holds the record for highest number of crimes committed in one paragraph. Where to start? Leading is wrong, spaces after apostrophes, rivers. All of this just makes it almost impossible to read. 

And in case you were wondering: that’s not an isolated comma on the 4th line, but an apostrophe on the 5th.

I found this in the in-flight magazine on my flight to Düsseldorf. The advert promotes a high budget business centre. Plenty of rivers within the text and a wrong start for this page. When using indented paragraphs, the first paragraph should not be indented but started flash with the column. Any following paragraphs are indented but no lines should be skipped when indentation is used. Here's a great example. Hover on the numbers in the gutters to learn more. 

Fake glyphs? The dot on the ċ makes the glyph look like a poor custom made glyph due to its much smaller size in relation to the those found on the i and j.
