Mitch Heart, The Brawler, shrugged his shoulders, giving a slight frown at the poll results.
“Sucks, but it’s not so bad. Least it cut short the time I have to waste hanging out wi–”
“With me. Right?”
Mitch looked up. Auggie Heart was striding toward him with purpose. His voice, usually jovial or at least casual, was tight. The look on his face was one Mitch hadn’t seen on the older man before, but had caught a glimpse or two of in the mirror before- usually on really bad nights.
Auggie continued his advance, that tight, too quiet tone continuing.
“You couldn’t listen, boy. I told you to follow my lead and you couldn’t even fucking do that right. This isn’t my fault. No. This is yours.”
“Christ, old man! What the hell is your problem? Heh, are you really that bent out of shape over losing a stupid-”
Whatever Mitch was going to say next was blown out of him along with the rest of the wind as Auggie gave an inhuman lunge forward, balled up fist sheathed in spike-studded leather driving itself into the young man’s gut. And another. And another. There was no opening, no chance for a counter. Everything Mitch knew was wrong. August Heart was a liar, a carouser, a shameless serial lover- and the most dangerous pugilist that any part of the industries had ever seen. And yet, he didn’t yell or even raise his voice, even as he continued to strike his son in every vital area he could reach.
“That’s the word, boy. Losing. I do not lose. Ever. I’ve never lost a damn thing in my life. But I did today. Because of you. Because you’re such a cold fish, without a scrap of your daddy’s charm or the will to work the marks at all. That’s why we’re out in the first goddamn round. That’s why we lost to a couple damn charlatans pulling rabbits out of their asses. Because damn near nobody liked us enough to vote for us, and it’s all your fault.”
Mitch was reduced to a bloodied heap at this point, blinded by crimson flowing into his eyes. His breath wheezed, blood dribbling from between his lips, shaking hands reaching up out of pure instinct to try to protect himself, and thankfully, the hail of punches stopped. Unfortunately, they were replaced by the repeated kicks of a steel toed boot. Slam after slam. Kick after kick.
“All. Your. Fault. It’s all. Your. Fault! You! Stupid! Waste! Fuck! You! FUCK! YOU!”
Auggie’s voice finally rose, his face a twisted mask of rage. Whether his aim was to kill Mitch or just cause him as much pain as possible. But whatever it was, after a couple dozen more kicks, he began to slow, as if his anger was slowly burning itself out. Mitch felt fewer and fewer cannonballs being fired into his already black and blue midsection. He could feel his ribs moving around unnaturally, though. He could also feel a thick, wet wad smack against his cheek just before the other man’s footsteps receded into the distance.
But between the cooling mass of saliva and phlegm, his own congealing blood and broken bones and missing teeth that were probably halfway across the base, Mitch could feel one more thing. Something hot blooming in his mind- a determined thought.
He would train every day. He was damn good but he would get better. He would get stronger. Faster. He would break and rebuild himself again and again if that’s what it took, until he was the version of himself that could get even.
Auggie Heart had never lost before now, so he said. And Mitch would make it his personal goal from now on to make sure he lost at least once more.
These were the thoughts that comforted Mitch as he felt his vital bodily functions grind to a halt, and until he woke up again in Respawn with a splitting headache.

Um, hi! My name is Penny Heart, but most people just call me Pen. Like Penguin! Um, I'm 11 years old and I like to draw and paint, and I really like arctic animals! Like polar bears! And seals! And yeah, PENGUINS! I have a penguin stuffie named Brrr. He's my best friend except for Mitch.
Um, what else. Oh! I have Type 1 diabetes. That means I gotta be real careful about how much sugar I eat. And I gotta have shots everyday, and prick my fingers to make sure there isn't too much sugar in my blood. I hope you don't think that's weird! Mitch says lots of kids have it.

Mitch: I get up pretty early. Whip up something from the kitchen for Pen, have a coffee and some eggs or something myself. Then I hit the gym. Usually the earliest guy there except for Soldier, pretty sure that guy is a crack of dawn person. Calisthenics, weights, speed bag. Sometimes I have Scout hit some fast ones at me to see how good I can dodge, if he's up. Then a shower, get dressed, and by then the first fight of the day is usually called.
Auggie: Mmm, let's see. Roll over, give my bedmate a peck on the cheek, tell them they were great, whip on my pants, and get the hell out of there. Through the window if necessary. Never date a girl who lives in a high rise, good rule of thumb.
Mitch: ...have I told you today that you can go to hell?

Mitch Heart (Left) is a young man well acquainted with struggle. Born to a young single mother and a father who took his leave not hours after Mitch was conceived, the blue eyed boy from Detroit grew up learning that anything he wanted or needed would have to be fought for- sometimes, quite literally. His mother often cared far more for whatever powder, pill, shot, or other Mother's Little Helper she was into than him, so it was up to Mitch and his fists to put food on the table. Serially mugging anyone who looked rich enough to spare the cash to lying about his age to get into underground fight rings, there was nothing Mitch couldn't solve by hitting it hard enough. Eventually he dropped out of school and left home to find his own place in the Dirty D. He was in high demand in the streets- doorman to illicit functions, bodyguard to high ranking lowlifes, unarmed robbery for hire- maybe not the most classy or cheerful existence, but Mitch was surviving. Sometimes that was the best you could do.
It was one day years later when Mitch dropped by his mom's house- something he did out of obligation to family but couldn't stand doing, couldn't stand seeing the absolute shell of his mother and the scumbag drug dealer she'd married. There was only one thing here that he loved- his little half sister, Penelope. She was better than this. This family, this city. She needed to be cared for, protected- something that the pair of zombies that were supposed to be doing that were utterly failing at.
And besides, she had Type 1. It was a miracle she hadn't wound up dead, either from missing her shots or accidentally being given a needle that had something in it that wasn't insulin.
So Mitch made a decision. Knowing that the wasted couple in the front room probably hadn't even noticed him come in and wouldn't even notice their daughter missing, Mitch told his sister to pack a bag- her favorite clothes and a couple of her favorite toys- because she would be staying with him.
The struggle increased. Feeding two mouths, not one. Kids' clothes and toys and furniture for the spare room in his shabby apartment. Expensive medicine that never could be allowed to run out. Trying desperately to clean up his act and be the kind of guardian that Pen deserved, staying out of the fighting rings and the underground but having to resort to stealing to supplement his income as a strip club bouncer. Dreading the ringing of the phone, that one day he'd get a call telling him to come down to the Detroit PD station to answer some questions about a kidnapping.
He lived in that dread… until one day he received an envelope. One with a job offer paying a ridiculous sum, with hints at a negotiable contract. He'd have to leave Detroit as it was an on-site job, but it was the opportunity of a lifetime.
When Mitch met Helen, he had three requests. That he could bring Pen with him. That she would be protected. And that she would have access to medical care. He would be willing to forgo a chunk of the proposed salary if necessary.
The woman in purple smiled, perhaps a bit unsettlingly, and produced the contract.

August Heart (Right), preferably known as Auggie and professionally known as the Brawler for Team Classic, is an enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a giant knot of lies, damn lies, and f*cking whoppers. The rugged middle aged man with the scar across his mouth and the roguishly charming grin can take you out for drinks and regale you with tales of his heroic adventures in the Navy, but it just as well could be complete bullshit spun out of much less impressive events. Maybe he wasn't even in the Navy and he just stowed aboard a cargo ship. Or maybe it was a fishing boat.
Two things about Auggie, though, are undeniable- One, he is an incredible fighter, gifted with almost otherworldly strength, speed, and stupid luck- the gifts that caught the eye of a certain woman in purple years ago and has made him an asset to her ever since, regardless of his behavior. Two, he is the single most selfish human being you could ever hope to meet in your life. Auggie doesn't have malice towards anyone- but he's not going to let anybody get in the way of something he wants, either, be it money, drink, or women.
Auggie refuses to be tied down, as well. One could argue that puts him at odds with his employment, but the slippery bastard knows his worth far too well- nobody can do what he does, period, and the Lady Boss knows it. So he does what he wants regardless of her approval, and fights when she asks- reminding her every time why she puts up with him.
Lately, though, she's shown him a contract- one of her new hires, one with a familiar name. If it was meant to irk Auggie, he was only intrigued. He was hardly shocked he had a kid he didn't know about- hell, he probably has a few dozen or more, if he were to guess. But how well young Mitch would do at his new job? That might be worth watching. After all, any success the kid had would only be the result of Auggie's genes. Right?
Tape- gives Adrenaline. The longer he lasts in a fight without dying the more his Adrenaline meter fills, and when it's all filled up he can Adrenaline Rush- that is, he can Uber himself.
Barbed Wire- gives Adrenaline, can cause Bleed to opponent, 50% risk of self inflicting Bleed
Brass Knuckles- gives Adrenaline, punches 25% slower with a higher damage output, chance of disarming opponent
Glass Shards- gives Adrenaline, starts with 50% increased damage but diminishes over time as shards are lost, can be replenished with ammo packs
Nails- replaces Adrenaline with Frenzy, giving a crit boost instead of Uber invincibility

The Mages enter the fray of the TFI's yearly contest!
Jasper Rodríguez & ██████ Serpentine are your humble Mages, a Support class who assists their teammates by using their magic to change the tides of the battle- either by enchanting their teammates with all sorts of stat boost blessings or by cursing their enemies with a good ol' blast of divine powers.
A hero prophecised to be the Chosen One and a mysterious wizard with powerful origins, these two rivals must work together if they want to keep their jobs. Will they pull through to the very end, or will rifts from the past cause chaos to erupt?
We know youre very good with hand to hand combat but are there any other types of weapons you enjoy using?
Mitch: I like knife fighting. It's really complimentary to how I fight usually. I like to keep my jabs quick and that kind of speed is what's gonna keep you alive if you have a knife in your hand.
Auggie: Boy, you do know something called a *gun* exists, right?
"I want to fucking throw up."
Mitch really could feel his breakfast heaving inside him like the ocean in a hurricane. Nausea, a fever, shaking- one glancing at the Detroit native without a lick of context might think he was terribly ill, but despite how Mitch may have felt, this wasn't exactly the case.
It wasn't any germ or virus making Mitch feel this way- it was pure unadulterated rage, a feeling that only pitched up every time he looked at the ruggedly handsome older man in front of him. That man, for his part, simply puffed at his cigar in an infuriatingly casual manner, eyeing the Brawler with the sort of detached concern one might have for seeing a complete stranger on the street in distress.
"Well, just don't do it on my boots, boy. Honestly, I don't know what the hell your problem is. You'd think you'd been put on a team with the devil himself."
"I might's well have been!"
Lighting up his own cigarette, Mitch paced back and forth like a wild animal, puffing smoke as if there really were hot coals inside him. He didn't look Auggie in the face once, though occasionally his sharp blue eyes flicked over to the other man's general direction.
"This had to be some kind of a sick fucking joke. Whoever put this together had to have known I didn't want a damn thing to do with you that wasn't fighting you and thought it'd be a huge fucking laugh if I had to fight through this tournament with you stuck to my ass like a barnacle."
For once, the self righteous smirk dropped from the older man's face slightly, and he sighed, grinding out his cigar in an ashtray and pocketing the rest.
"You're looking at this all wrong, Mitch. You got no appreciation for angles. Think. You wanted to go into this all alone, just you against the world. That isn't a noble or heroic tack, boy, that's the sucker's path. But you're not alone. You're with me, the best damn fist fighter in the whole of this company. And you? You got my genes, and inherited my knack for throwing hands. You shut your mouth, suck it up, and follow my lead? We could win the whole damn thing, son."
Mitch's eyes flashed. One hand zipped forward, fingers gripping tighter than rigor mortis on Auggie's bandanna, tugging the man toe to toe with him.
"You. Call me 'son'. One more fucking time? I'm giving you a matching gouge on the other side of your face. You don't got that right. You gave it up a long time ago. Got it?"
"Hey, hey! Relax!"
Auggie held his hands up flat. Mitch relinquished his grip slowly.
"Fine. Read you loud and clear. But I'm serious. You think on that, maybe consider giving me an inch. Working with me a little. It'll be worth your while."
Straightening his bandanna, Auggie sauntered off, probably to the nearest bar. Snorting, Mitch headed toward the medbay. Pen had probably gotten her shot by now and, as much as the girl and the oddball doctor seemed to get along, Mitch didn't want to rely on Medic to play babysitter.
He didn't want to rely on anyone. But least of all the man who'd brought him into this world and left.

and there is one and only true master of mecha, and it's Gray Mann, his ideal and patron, so he ofc goes to nudge him, but it's not really cool to nudge your boss
