Hungarian Vagabond* (2004)

Here is how history goes: the Hungarian tribes, led by seven chiefstains--Álmos, Előd, Ond, Kond, Tas, Huba and Töhötöm--, arrive at the Carpathian Basin in 895AD.

What happens in the movie: the tribes throw a huge party upon arrival, and the seven chiefstains wake up the next day--hungover--to all of their people gone. And so begins a 1100 years long journey through history as they look for them, told through comedic sketches.

The sketches are chock full of not only references to events in Hungarian history, but cameos by Hungarian people who were well-known in the early 2000s. There are musical numbers. Like at one point, during the Turkish occupation, the chiefstains are mistaken for eunuchs and led to a harem to guard the ladies, only to be seduced by them.

In a later scene they meet some Englishmen who are just figuring out the rules of soccer, play and defeat them, to 11:2, which the English then negotiate to 6:3 (recalling a famous 1953 match where the Hungarian team beat the English with this score).

In the meantime, the individual chieftains have their own recurring jokes. One is always eating something Very Hungarian. Another has sudden strokes of genius and creates stuff that sounds stupid in context, but are actual, famous Hungarian inventions (e.g Rubik's Cube, Vitamin C).

The movie ends with the chieftains reaching the present and finding the Hungarians.

This is a man who is VIOLENTLY aware that when it comes to conservatives, he is a Muslim first, a Brown Man second, an Immigrant third, a Socialist fourth, and a human a very distant fifth, if considered at all. He was also a young adult during the Obama Years and will have seen Republicans rip Obama to shreds for wearing a tan suit instead of a dark one and use literally ANY excuse they could to try and degrade his image.
