The Mvskoke language doesn't have a word for good morning, but there is the phrase "did you make it through the night?". I really like that greeting. So hensci! Hello! And welcome to my blog. I will post information about the Muscogee tribe, information about North American tribes, the Mvskoke language, and some art I make! If you have questions, feel free to ask. I am far from an expert, but I can always ask elders who know more than me!

Some basic information about me. I was born and raised in Muskogee, a city within the Muscogee reservation. I now live near Oklahoma City. My grandfather is from the Bear clan, and his tribal town is Eufaula. Since Muscogee tracks clan through the mother, I'm technically not a member of the bear clan. I am mixed, white passing, but I don't intend on going into my blood quantity. However, I want to be transparent that it's not high for a number of reasons. I am a card-carrying citizen of the Muscogee nation and enjoy learning what I can.

Some information about the blog:

I plan on posting a lot about the Mvskoke language since I am learning it. It is NOT a closed language. Actually, the tribe highly encourages anyone interested in learning to learn since not many speak it anymore. So please learn with me!

I can not speak for all native tribes or even my own tribe. I just have an interest in my tribe's history. I try to follow as much official information released by the Muscogee government or elders I learn from. If you feel I have made a mistake please let me know, I'm still young and will do that from time to time.

Some practices may be closed practices, and I will try to specify which ones are and which are not. I will also try to site my sources, but sometimes that gets a little weird when learning old practices.

The blogs title is Tvstvnvkke which is Mvskoke for "warrior". This is also a title for one of the governmental branches within the tribe.

Each was based off something in spring I love.

This was a project I did for my Mvskoke class. I was really happy with it. It's about the Muscogee story of the eclipse.

The hungry frog looked up and saw the sun. He jumped and ate it. However, his eyes were bigger than his stomach, so he had to spit it back up. Then he chased it into the water.

I hate the arguments, so really, I'm making these info graphics so I have a quick and easy rebuttal to racists.

I refuse to actually spell the name out. In my opinion, mentioning it outside the context of traditional storytelling is begging for your life to go down hill.

It's not some fun silly monster found in the woods. It's an evil spirit of self-destruction and community destruction.

Something that annoys me to no end is when talking about the Aztec, someone always brings up human sacrifices like it's this crazy idea. Nearly every culture did some sort of human sacrifice. If it's European, we just called it "heresy trials" or "witch hunts."

When Romans saw Druid capital punishment, they gasped and went "what violent human sacrifices" while literally being Roman.

Just a little FYI, since I've seen a lot of stuff about Pretendians coming up.

Some Pretendian red flags:

● "I took a DNA test and it said--" DNA tests are often wrong. Beyond that it has to do with relationship to the tribe, not just blood quantum.

●"I'm part Native American and that doesn't bother me!" Normally people identify by their tribe specifically, not a very vague 'Native American'.

●"My (family) was a (tribe) princess." Many Americans have a family myth about being Indigenous. It often roots back to land disputes in early American colonization. Almost always, this isn't true. Most tribes didn't even have royalty in the European sense.

● Misuse of regalia. This one is most annoying to me personally. War bonnets at music festivals, dream catchers as decorations, breast plate bikinis, chin 'tribal' face paint, and so on. It's so rude and so often excused with "well I'm part native." Even if you are Native it's still rude.

● Offense at being asked questions. I don't know a single indigenous person who gets cagey when asked about themselves. People LOVE to talk. You let someone just keep talking, and you'll know all their distant cousins and those cousins cousins in no time. At the very least, your indigenous ancestors name and the tribe should be known if you're going to try to make a claim.

For Governor Kevin Stitt, who's had a really hard time understanding this.

This image came through work, and a coworker said, "I like the two petting the dog at the bottom here." I had to inform her they were, indeed, not petting that dog. Several tribes do have a history of eating dogs. Some tribes still do this practice, I know people who have had dog at dances. The image shows a man and child preparing the dog while a woman brings another on a lead.
