Vitacca Ballet presents WOVEN, a program featuring a brand-new pointe creation from Hélène Simoneau, an exciting reimagining of Grey Horses by choreographer Robyn Mineko-Williams (originally created for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), and the thrilling extension of Hypnotic Forces from brilliant Resident Choreographer Garrett Smith. In it's most ambitious season yet, Vitacca Ballet brings to the stage five world premieres, two unique Houston premieres, and a dance film throughout the 2023/2024 Season.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is saying goodbye to the road, with their upcoming All the Good Times:

Over the course of six decades, the three-time Grammy-winning band has brought audiences classics including “Mr. Bojangles,” “Fishin’ in the Dark” and “An American Dream.” In 1984, the group’s “Long Hard Road” reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, followed another chart-topper, “Modern Day Romance,” in 1985 as well as 1987’s “Fishin’ in the Dark,” which in recent years has been covered by artists including Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley.

Eric Gales grew up in a musical family with four brothers, two of them who learned to play the guitar upside down and left-handed in the same fashion that Eric does. Eric released his first record at Age 16 for Elektra records to an amazing response from the media and music fans around the globe. Guitar World Magazine’s Reader’s Poll named Eric as “Best New Talent,” in 1991.

Through the years, it would not be unusual to look out in the audience and see artists like Carlos Santana, Eric Johnson, B. B. King, and Eric Clapton, looking on with interest as Eric took his guitar and worked crowd after crowd into a frenzy. He was signed to a deal with Hendrix family affiliated Nightbird Records and recorded the critically acclaimed “That’s What I Am.” He hit the road, mesmerizing fans around the world with his uncanny connection to his guitar. 

More critically acclaimed releases followed, including “Crystal Vision,” “The Psychedelic Underground,” "Relentless," and “Transformation”. A spiritually renewed Eric Gales released “Good For Sumthin’”and the Double Live CD/DVD “A Night on the Sunset Strip.” The deeply personal and introspective works, “Middle of the Road” and “The Bookends” followed.

As both an African-American left-handed guitarist of extraordinary ability and an expressive vocalist, it is natural for people to compare Eric to Hendrix. But Eric has developed a unique hybrid blues/rock sound that also draws upon influences as diverse as Albert King and Frank Gambale. A unique amalgam of styles, Eric Gales stands head and shoulders among other guitarists in his genre.

The Mastersons are singer-songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore. When they’re not touring the world as valued longtime members of Steve Earle’s band the Dukes, the musical and marital twosome make inspired albums of their own emotionally vivid, deeply humanistic songs. The duo’s fourth set of original compositions is the appropriately titled "No Time for Love Songs." 

With the new album, the duo celebrates the tenth anniversary of their partnership and continues their creative journey. Prior to launching their recording partnership, Chris played with Son Volt, Jack Ingram and others, while Eleanor lent her talents to projects by Regina Spektor and Angus & Julia Stone. Their first collaborative effort, "Birds Fly South," won widespread critical acclaim, with Esquire designating the Mastersons as one of the "Bands You Need To Know Right Now."

Paul Thorn is an American Southern rock, country, Americana, and blues singer-songwriter, whose style is a mix of blues, country, and rock. He is able to breathe in the air around him, every day and commonplace, and exhale something original and often side-splitting funny. It’s a kind of genius, and it’s there plain to see, in his music, his art, and through his performances, which not only showcase his chops as a singer-songwriter, but as a pitch-perfect improv comic. 

His audiences love it. And they come back for more because no two Paul Thorn performances are alike. For further confirmation of this, check out Thorn’s YouTube videos, though I warn you. You will find yourself a long time in this rabbit hole. 

We live in a world where the terms “artist” and “genius” have been rendered meaningless through overuse. To use either in describing Thorn, though, is not overreach. Pick up any of his dozen or so CDs. The evidence is plain to see. Just listen.

"Boomtown" follows the true story of an overnight boomtown in our very own Texas town. Aided by dancehall owner and a crooked sheriff “Two Gun” Dick Herwig, he sees his oil town gets overrun by millionaires, criminals and Texas Rangers. 

 This 70-minute musical comedy with a live band features Heath Allyn, Dan Dalbout, Kelsey Kimble, Josh Meindertsma, Megan Moore Ortiz, Wil Pintauro-Taberes, Phil Rodriguez and Mia Washington. 

Texas Comedies brings irreverent musical comedies to towns across the state: shows like "The Feud," "Bonnie & Clyde," "Murders & Moontowers," "Prohibition," and "Alamo Aftermath." In theaters and halls of all sizes, we perform one hour musical comedy productions, each with a live band, loosely based on “true” events in Texas history
