I've only ever made one trip to Hamilton in my life, and it was to see Leonard Cohen when he came back from retirement in 2009, because Toronto tickets sold out instantly. I took the bus and happily went alone, and it was one of the greatest musical experiences I've ever witnessed in a life spent bearing witness to incredible live music. Truly Holy Baptism, for someone like me. I think in some odd way Leonard knew we needed a reason to stop feeling angry this week and remember we still have the music, the art, the poetry, the words - these are the things that matter. The first time I was ever in New York City I was 15 on a school art trip, and it was 4 months before the towers fell. I have since been forever grateful I had the chance to stand in the towers and observe their incredible beauty before that day. The last time I was in the city, the memorial hadn't yet been built.
