He smiled lightly. âThatâs nice of you.â he remarked. âItâs important to look after those who are important to you, isnât it? Itâs too bad you werenât able to do much to look after her, considering your deceased status and all.â
He darted his eyes to the ground when she mentioned trusting people.
âYeah⌠you donât have to tell me twice, Mia, or erm, Ms. Fey. Iâve learned the hard way not to be so trusting of people. Especially considering the sort of man Prosecutor Portsman really was⌠Iâm surprised I didnât suspect anything before the⌠event happened.â he said as a grimace replaced his smile.
âWell, Iâve only met Mr. Edgeworth once, in the usual way, and that wasnât too long ago, so I canât make any opinions on how he was. I did hear nasty stuff about him. People around the police department do talk after all. I think heâs gotten better now, at least. I mean, he solved my murder, so I canât hold much against him, right?â he said sheepishly. It was a unique situation that Buddy was in. Not many men and women can claim, while being alive, that their murder had been solved. Such was the peculiar fate Buddy had met with.
(I sense a bit more hostility in her now. I suppose I canât blame her. If she is speaking of her killer, then she has every right to be harsh. I hope she doesnât get into trouble again.)
âYou can only hope, right? And well, it doesnât hurt to be too careful, even though I doubt whoever it is is just going to spring out of jail for no good reason. Iâm sure youâll be fine, maâam.â
