it isn’t often anymore that he gets time to himself. away from Reno, who was busy doing his own thing with Heaven knows who and Heaven knows what -- it wasn’t his business. besides, he finally got time to stretch out on the sofa (his legs were still bent at the knee a bit, as they were too long to properly stretch out on the cushions of the piece of furniture), and read a book. he’s so immersed in the novel that he doesn’t notice Tseng’s pen-upon-paper scratching has ceased, and he doesn’t click into the foot steps approaching him, even though Tseng was quiet as a general rule while moving anyway.

𝐈𝐓❜𝐒 𝐀 𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓, 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐄𝐃. a drink between boss & subordinate — - a drink between friends. family. tseng is on his third glass of wine, though he can only just barely feel his head swimming. it took a bit more than that to get him drunk, but he was at that point where nothing really seemed off limits. all questions could be asked, and all answers would be spoken. 

“if you dig deep enough into family history,” he begins, swirling the red liquid around the glass, “who knows what secrets one can find.” the point of the statement? none, really — - just a random line of dialogue, spewed off into the nether … unless, of course, there had been a reason for the unprompted statement. “aren’t you ever curious, rude?”

Rude wasn’t much of a drinker, but he would never refuse a drink from Tseng. it was part of the routine, after all. not that they often got together to hang out, but in the rare instances they were without Reno and could quietly relax, Rude indulged -- where Tseng was on his third glass of wine, Rude was still on his first. he sipped lazily. he clutched the wine glass between two large paws for hands and sat stiff in his seat. not that he was uncomfortable ; quite the opposite. he was content, actually. as Tseng spoke, Rude quirks a brow, tilting his head to get a better look of his boss.   “ mn. ”   it’s a noise of agreement.
