Sinopsis : Two prodigies, a silent rivalry and a past marked by shadows and battles. Between missions, provocations and unwavering loyalty, something impossible to ignore is born. Years later, when war gave way to residence, what began as competition blossomed into love.
From an early age, you were always a prodigy. While other children your age were still tripping over their own feet trying to form seals, you had already mastered advanced jutsus and exceeded your teachers' expectations. The ninja academy was easy for you, almost tedious. The real challenge lay in overcoming your own limits, which became your ultimate goal.
But there was an exception.
Among the brilliant students who stood out, there was one boy who always seemed to be one step ahead, or at least on the same level. You never knew his name, nor did you make a point of it. However, you felt his presence as a constant reminder that there were still challenges to overcome.
It was as if there was a silent competition between you. Whenever you mastered a new technique, he also executed it to perfection. Whenever you completed an endurance exercise, he was already one step ahead, without showing any fatigue. This ignited something inside you. It wasn't hatred. It wasn't envy. It was a burning desire to prove that you were the best.
Time passed quickly. You became a Chunin before you were even old enough. Shortly afterwards, your talent was recognized by the ANBU. The dark and secretive work wasn't for everyone, but you adapted quickly. Infiltration, assassination and reconnaissance missions were commonplace in your routine, and you handled them with the same excellence you had always shown.
On your first mission as ANBU, you received your team. And there he was.
The mask was different, but the eyes that shone behind it were the same. It was him, that boy from the academy, now a teammate. Time passed, but the feeling remained. The silent competition, the need to outdo each other. However, as the missions passed, something began to change.
The competition turned into something different.
Respect? Admiration? You couldn't tell for sure. But every time he fought alongside you, every time he covered your blind spots and every time you came back from a mission alive, a new feeling grew inside you.
What was once a silent rivalry was becoming something much bigger.
Years passed and, over the course of the missions, the trust between you solidified. Even without knowing his real name, you started calling him by the only name he had within ANBU: Tenzo. The bond between you was unbreakable. Between ambushes, battles and cold nights spent in silence among the shadows, you built a strong bond, a connection that went beyond words.
Until a mission came along.
It was against this backdrop that you and Tenzo were assigned to an espionage mission. The aim was to infiltrate an enemy hideout and bring information to the Hokage of the time, Hiruzen Sarutobi. The task was dangerous, but you were used to the risk. As always, you had each other.
But something went wrong.
The enemy discovered you before you could escape. The confrontation was inevitable and brutal. In the middle of the fight, an ambush separated you, and your escape route collapsed. You were located, cornered and seriously injured. Even under attack, Tenzo didn't hesitate. With precision and coolness, he did his utmost to ensure that you made it back to the village alive. And he succeeded. You barely remember your escape. Only the weight of your body being carried and the security you felt, even amid the pain and chaos.
During your recovery, something inside you had changed. You felt that your time at ANBU had come to an end. It wasn't fear. Nor weakness. Just a desire to breathe new air, to live beyond the shadows and secret missions. So you made your decision: you would leave the ANBU.
The Hokage understood your choice and offered you a new path. You were put in charge of a jounin team until you came of age. When that day came, you were assigned to be a sensei, training the next generation of ninjas. A different life, lighter, but no less important.
Even now, far from the clandestine missions and the darkness of ANBU, you still remembered him. The masked boy who had once been your rival. The boy who became your battle buddy. Tenzo. The one with whom you formed unbreakable bonds of trust. The one who perhaps left a mark on you that not even time could erase.
The years passed and your name became known within the Leaf Village as an exemplary sensei. You helped train new ninjas, offering rigorous training and valuable lessons. Because of your firm and determined personality, your friendship with Kakashi Hatake blossomed. He, like you, had a history of difficult struggles, and you often exchanged conversations about your students or missions that seemed impossible.
Until chaos struck again.
Akatsuki was on the move, capturing the bijuu one by one. The attacks were relentless, and the Leaf Village was not immune. After the mission to rescue Kazekage Gaara, Kakashi was seriously injured and hospitalized. With his absence, the leadership of Team 7 became vacant. You, one of the most experienced senseis, were called in to supervise the team temporarily.
What you didn't expect was to meet him again.
When you received the mission report, one name caught your eye: Yamato. You frowned. You had never heard of him. But when you finally arrived at the meeting place and saw that familiar face - now without the ANBU mask, but still with the same determined look - the shock was inevitable.
βTenzo...?β you muttered in surprise.
He smiled slightly, crossing his arms.
"It's been a while since I've been called that. I'm Yamato now. But it's nice to see that you still recognize me."
A whirlwind of emotions swept over you. The boy from your childhood, your partner in so many battles, was now there, by your side once again. And once again, you had a common goal: to protect those who would come after you.
Your reunion with Yamato couldn't have come at a more chaotic time. Called to guide the new Team 7, made up of Naruto, Sakura and Sai. The mission was a risky one: to investigate Orochimaru's hideout and find out more about Sasuke.
From the first moment, working alongside Yamato was a test of his nerves. He maintained that serious, professional posture, but you knew him well enough to pick up on the little hints of provocation when he wanted to.
βSo, you've become a newbie babysitter?β Yamato commented with a little smile, as you walked together before the mission.
You crossed your arms, arching an eyebrow.
"And you? Have you become a substitute leader? I thought they'd never let you out of the shadows"
βSurprise, surprise,β he retorted, casting an amused glance at you. βBut I admit that working with explosive teenagers is a completely new challenge.β
The interaction between you continued in this way throughout the preparation of the mission. While Sakura was responsible for medical strategy, Naruto for spare energy and Sai for⦠general annoyance, you and Yamato had to keep everything under control. Something which, of course, proved more difficult than it seemed.
Naruto soon noticed the dynamic between you and, at some point during the trip, looked from one to the other with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Okay, what's the story here? Did you two fight when you were kids or something?"
"Something like that" you answered quickly, without going into details.
βShe always wanted to outdo me,β Yamato added thoughtfully. βBut she never succeeded.β
βThat's an absurd lie!β you retorted, glaring at him indignantly.
Sakura sighed, already used to the team's antics.
βI think we have two Narutos on this mission.β
The mission took its course, leading you to Orochimaru's hideout. Along the way, you and Yamato were forced to trust each other again, just like in the old days. Teamwork was instinctive, as if years of distance hadn't existed.
But it was on a camping night, while everyone was asleep, that a more sincere moment happened. Yamato sat down next to him, watching the campfire with a faraway look in his eyes.
βDo you miss ANBU?β he asked suddenly.
You took a moment to answer.
"Sometimes. But I think I made the right choice. And you?"
"I didn't think I'd like teaching. But seeing these kids' efforts⦠it's rewarding in a different way."
You smiled, feeling a wave of nostalgia. It had been a long time since you'd had a conversation like that, without masks - literally and figuratively. The comfortable silence between you said more than any words.
The relationship between you and Yamato has always been a mixture of silent competition and unwavering trust. From your ANBU days to supervising Team 7, you've stood shoulder to shoulder, facing challenges that tested both your skills and your feelings for each other. But there was never time for anything other than a professional partnership. The shinobi world allowed no distractions.
The Fourth Ninja War devastated everything and everyone. Madara Uchiha and his overwhelming force destroyed entire nations, and you and Yamato were on the front line of battle. It was there, among the ruins of the fighting, that the feelings that had lain in the background for so many years became impossible to ignore.
At one of the most critical moments of the war, you were separated from the rest of the Allied forces and fell into an ambush. The fighting was intense, and for a moment, you thought that would be the end of you. But then Yamato appeared, as he always did. He didn't hesitate, nor did he spare any effort to get you out of that situation.
βYou can't just worry like that every time, Yamato,β you muttered, clutching a deep cut on your shoulder as he helped you up.
He let out a low laugh, his eyes kind despite his fatigue.
βIdiotβ you hissed, but you couldn't hide your relief at seeing him there.
After the war, when the dust finally settled and Leaf Village began to get back on its feet, it was as if the world had given you a second chance. No urgent missions, no constant threats, no masks. For the first time, you could just⦠live.
But it was hard to break out of the war mentality. Time passed, the village rebuilt itself little by little, and you and Yamato continued to meet frequently. Small missions, meetings, even just to help rebuild. Little by little, work became habit and habit became something more.
It was one afternoon, after a long day helping to repair one of the destroyed bridges, that it all became clear to you. Yamato, sweaty and covered in dust, was standing next to you, watching the work progress.
βOne day this will all be the same,β he commented, stretching out his arms.
You looked at him, feeling something deep inside you. It wasn't just about the village. It was about you. About how, after everything, he was still there. As he had always been.
βYamato,β you called, and he turned to you with a curious look. βWhat comes after that?β
He blinked, surprised by the question.
βAfter the reconstruction?β
He was silent for a moment, then gave a small smile.
"I think we can finally have a normal life. Or something close to it."
βNormal life, huh?β you crossed your arms, pretending to think. βI never imagined you'd be the homebody type.β
βOh, please,β he laughed. "You're the one who's always worked yourself to exhaustion here. At least I know how to take a day off."
βThen teach me,β you said, almost as a challenge.
His gaze softened, and something sparkled in his eyes.
Dating was a natural transition. There was no big event, no dramatic confession. Just you, spending more time together, until it didn't make sense to call it anything other than what it really was: a relationship.
Marriage, however, was something unexpected. You were never the type to dream of white robes and elaborate ceremonies. And Yamato, practical as ever, didn't seem to be either. But one day, as you were walking together through the center of the village, he looked at you and said, casually:
"Have you ever thought about getting married?" You almost stumbled.
He laughed, scratching the back of his head.
"It was just a question. But... we've been together for a while. And if there's one thing this war has taught me, it's that I don't want to waste time when something's important."
You looked at him for a moment, absorbing his words. Then you smiled.
And that's how you decided to get married. No rush, no pressure. Just a natural choice between two people who had been inseparable for years. The ceremony was small, just close friends and a few familiar faces. Kakashi gave a bland speech, Naruto ate more than was acceptable, and Sakura tried unsuccessfully to stop Sai from making awkward jokes about human relationships.
