pynk is my favorite part
y'all ever get hit with the realization when youāre in the middle of doing something like, whoa, what the fucking shit this is real life. like this is happening right now. not even when its something crazy i mean when youāre like doing the laundry or some shit
its like you get snapped out of autopilot and suddenly everything becomes physically clearer and louder

The Hour of the Star, Clarice Lispector
āDonāt you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?ā
Lady Bird (2017) dir. Greta Gerwig
when oscar wilde wroteĀ āthere are moments when one has to choose between living oneās own life, fully, entirely, completely-or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demandsā i felt that
please make sure that wherever youāre at in life, you donāt treat it like a transitory period. donāt waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. donāt waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while itās important to better yourself and reach for your goals, donāt neglect the present because thatās where you are now and itās your now that determines your future.Ā

āmy battery is low and itās getting darkā is so hauntingly human, so crushingly lonely. I canāt articulate the deep, profound ache that sentence evokes. Itās acceptance and defeat and terror and sadness all at once, all from one tiny machine we asked to explore the stars for us.
Literally just romanticize your own life. Whatās stopping you. Who will care. Commit to enjoying things.Ā
Mary Oliver, fromĀ āthe fourth sign of the zodiacā published in Blue Horses
pulitzer prize-winning poet mary oliver died today at 83 and it could be because itās january 17th and Iām depressed but, as someone who has an appreciation for poetry but can never seem to get in to it, mary oliverās works have a very special place in my heart
during my senior year of high school I took a discussion-based european literature course that was both the hardest and best course I have ever taken in all my years of schooling purely because the teacher was mrs shepard who was in her 70s, taught part time because she was battling cancer, wore what had to be the full chicoās catalogue, and she remains everything I want to be when I grow up
she was the most thought-provoking and knowledgeable teacher Iāve ever had and always encouraged us to really dig in to and consider what we were studying and truly encouraged a passion for literature, and the cultures and people the works came from, in all of us
she was deeply empathetic and encouraged all of us to be the same and she worked hard to build relationships with each of us and with each otherĀ
she was never afraid or ashamed to discuss the struggles, hardships, and setbacks she faced over her life and even agreed to meet me for coffee after graduation when my grandma died to talk about emotions surrounding death and life and healing and i still believe taking her class and getting to know her was one of the best decisions Iāve made as a person
all of that backstory to say that every year she chose a poem to gift her seniors to take with them and hold close to their hearts when they need it
she gifted us āwild geeseā by mary oliver which, of all her works and those of others, remains my favorite poem to this day
so on this, maryās death day, please take a moment to read āwild geeseā and may you all hear the harsh and exciting call of the world and find your place in the family of things
You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting ā over and over announcing your place in the family of things.
being a macroorganism is so stressful. i want to know what my cells are doing. I donāt like how unsupervised they are

On November 5, 1917, 100 years ago today, Wilfred Owen wrote a gorgeous love letter to fellow gay World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon. It continues to be one of my favorite love letters of all time.
