THE CLOISTERS - ST. BENEDICTS SCHOOL, EALING, LONDON - Henley Halebrown Architects
The new building creates two new halls (one for assemblies, the other for examinations), a new Chapel, a Music School, Modern Languages department, visitor and pupil entrances.
An early design decision was to plan the new building, like Russian dolls, with one hall inside the other. The inner 2-storey 225sqm examination hall is framed by a cage of columns and doors which when open increase the floor area to 400sqm creating enough space for assemblies. Together the physical form, and plan, of the halls invokes a cloister at the very centre of the school, and reflects the Benedictine culture. It is also used for play rehearsals and performances, concerts, exhibitions, receptions and fencing practice.
The cloister is used to organise both new facilities and the school estate as a whole, and addresses changes of level of 1.8m transforming accessibility. Materially, the concrete spaces are akin to those of a monastery. However, the atmosphere on the attic storey is different- the engineered timber interiors provide an altogether softer environment for the music school which frames the chapel and garden in which it stands. The scheme employs thermal mass, is naturally ventilated and daylit. Innovative teaching spaces respond unusually to the use of whiteboards.

POPE JOHN PAUL II HALL, by Randić-Turato Architects, Rijeka, Croatia
https://www.archdaily.com/40969/pope-john-paul-ii-hall-randic-turato
....The new construction consists of two elements: a generic volume of the hall and a columned portico that creates a new public square within the monastery. The Hall is cladded in a single terracotta-brick surface with a pixelated structure created by the changing gap between the elements, bringing the light in the hall.”

DAVID ADJAYE - RIVINGTON PLACE, London
https://www.archdaily.com/214091/rivington-place-adjaye-associates?ad_medium=gallery
The building is on a tight corner site, surrounded by other buildings. Entry is via a three-story high atrium which is positioned half way down its long side. The public spaces are accessed from the atrium, with offices on the floors above.Â
The external facade is punctuated by rectangular openings positioned within an expanding grid. The openings on the front elevation are the same width, but at different height, at each level. On the side elevation, both dimensions are changeable.
The effect of the facade system on the internal spaces varies in different parts of the building. It is not unusual for spaces to have windows at two different levels, the lower ones giving views into the street and the upper ones giving views of the sky.....

TOD WILLIAMS . BILLIE TSIEN - LOGAN CENTER FOR THE ARTS
http://www.archdaily.com/296212/logan-center-for-the-arts-university-of-chicago-tod-williams-billie-tsien-associates
“The idea of the long, low, skylit building of studios and theaters, and the tower of the arts came from imagining the flat prairies of the Midwest and the great towers of Chicago. The quiet low “plains” building will provide three floors of beautifully lit studios, a gallery, music practice rooms and theaters that are spatial surprises. The presence of the tower on the south side of the Midway announces a new home for the creative life of students and faculty and a public venue for residents of the city.”
“We have put cinema, dance, performance, ensemble spaces of music, and classrooms on different floors and connected these programs with generous elevators and dramatic stairways…..Moving from floor to floor, students, faculty, and residents of Chicago will discover communal places to gather and secret places to be alone.”
note the shop and sculpture studio spaces at the bottom! the nature of these spaces does not warrant for hung ceilings and “standard” size and type of openings and doors.

SHAPING THE INTERIOR….materials, alignments, separations, shapes, light (or lack of light), metering, repetition, seams, attachments, flexibility……
as you are drawing your interior views, you should CONTINUE TO THINK AS AN ARCHITECT and DESIGN THE SPACES, create the experience the spaces should evoke. the digital model is not finished with the information you feed into your drawing program - it is the beginning of the design of SPACE through a view you were not able to see or control otherwise…..a few inspirations for some of the important spaces in your building:
