۞ - She softly clears her throat, collecting herself. She had not meant to snap. It simply, slipped out. She needed to be more forgiving.

The Underworld never slept. But it did watch.

Hades stood at the edge of the Crossroads where shadow folded over shadow, fingers drumming idly against the obsidian head of his bident as if time itself had the decency to wait for him. The House of Hades thrummed behind him, quiet labor, obedient shades, the soft hiss of firelight but his attention was fixed elsewhere. 

On her.

“Really,” he drawled, voice smooth as spilled wine and twice as dangerous, “if you’re going to rearrange the fabric of witchcraft in my realm, you could at least warn me first.”

A corner of his mouth curved, not a smile, not quite; something sharper, amused. His eyes glinted molten gold in the dark as he turned toward Hecate, the Crossroads’ own sovereign, the Titaness who wore secrets like jewelry and power like perfume.

“You’ve always had a flair for dramatics,” he continued lightly, circling closer with the lazy confidence of a god who knew the ground would never betray him. “Doors opening where they shouldn’t. Magic humming just enough to make my shades nervous. Honestly, you’re spoiling them. They expect ambience now.”

He stopped a measured distance away- close enough to feel the pull of her power, far enough to show respect. Or restraint. Hard to tell with him.

“Still,” he added, gaze flicking briefly to the shifting shadows at her back before returning to her face, “I suppose if someone’s going to rewrite fate at my crossroads, I’m relieved it’s you.” A pause, deliberate. Bewitching. “Anyone else, I’d have fed to Tartarus by now.”

His tone softened, not gentler, but richer, layered with something ancient and intimate. “Tell me, Hecate,” he murmured, voice dipping like a promise or a threat, “is this visit business… or did you simply miss me?”

The darkness leaned in, listening.

۞ - There is nothing truer, about the watchful eyes of The Underworld. Nothing as certainly and dangerously true, as the Guardian of Erebus. The Witch of the Crossroads. Hecate. Nothing and no one, like Hades, could escape her careful eye. Unfortunately, this also meant that she could not escape his. To her, displeasure of this fact of course. Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

۞ - There is a sigh as she's listening to him speak. Her attempts to ignore him, well they don't go very well. For even the Lord of the Underworld seemed to have much to say. Never a dull moment amongst the nights of this place. She softly, purposefully, rolls her eyes at his words. His allure does not work on her, and certainly not in any way he might wish it.

♦ - "You can certainly try to feed me to Tartarus. You can even chop me up, perhaps give my bones away to Cerberus, hm? What a splendid vacation that would be."

۞ - She smirks at her own words, her own amusement. Nothing more interesting than sassing someone who should, truly not be sassed by anyone. Of course, she did not always care about what was meant to be and what wasn't. Perhaps if he had left her alone to deal with her work, she wouldn't feel the need to be. Well, disrespectful.

۞ - She lowers her hands, knowing well and truly the territory that she's in. Despite her displeasure of it, she respected him highly. She respected the primordial beings highly as well, so she supposed she'd be a bit kinder to him.

۞ - So she sighs. It's soft, almost defeated before she speaks again.

There was an uncomfortable silence as she stood there-a hand to her chin as she stared at the room around her. It was lively, lights adorned the tent and rugs were strewn in what she assumed was supposed to be fashionable-to Dora, supposedly, as Melinoë was never privy to such notions. Her eyes glanced around the place, lips pursing as she turns to go leave-coming face to face with with her mentor.

❝ Headmistress! ❞ She spoke, standing straighter at the surprise of seeing her here. It wasn't like Hecate was not allowed to-it was just... it wasn't often that she did. ❝ I have not indeed. There were things I was going to attend to, some spells, fixing the training grounds, I haven't tended to matters here in a few trips-it was about time. ❞

۞ - The Titaness stood silently for a moment, listening to Melinoë's words. Though as she began to ask questions of her own, the older woman shook her head gently as her answer. Before she spoke, she turned her back towards Melinoë; only so that she could begin walking that is. In which she gestured for the other to follow her. Something like this aught not to be discussed right outside of Melinoë's tent, after all.

♦ - "There is no need for panic, Melinoë. I merely wish to discuss with you your, choice."

۞ - She understands that her words are vague, as that is what she has chosen for them to be. She continues walking, deciding not to add more to it and only listen if Melinoë had her own things to say to her response. When they reached a tent, one that was particularly larger than the young goddess's. She finally turned back towards her, eyebrows furrowed as if she was concerned.

“  i don’t want you here.  just go.  ” 

“  you ‘didn’t mean to hurt me?’  yeah you did.  like it or not,  i know exactly who you are.  ” 

“  why won’t you even look at me?  ”

“  i’m not angry at you.  i’m angry with myself for trusting you.  ”

“  i wish you’d stop trying to destroy yourself in some misguided effort to feel worthy.  ”

“  i know it’s not fair to say this,  but i don’t have anything without you.  if i don’t have you i have nothing.  ”

“  you can’t love me.  not the way i need to be loved.  ”

“  i’m broken.  and i don’t need anyone to try to feed me white lies about it.  something inside me is broken and it isn’t just going to be put back like it was.  ” 

“  sometimes being broken isn’t about trying to put things back together like they were before.  it’s about picking up what pieces are left and building something new.  ”

“  okay,  so you’re a monster.  so am i.  lets be monsters together.  ” 

“  because of what they/you did i’m damaged.  ”  

“  what the hell is wrong with you?  ”

“  i can’t fix you.  you can’t expect me to know how to fix you.  ” 

“  yeah,  i’ll be here.  i’ll be here when you’re ready to stop running.  ”

“  my world is just falling apart.  it’s like everything is just crumbling around me.  i don’t know what to do.  i just want it to stop ”  

“  you’re the only thing that makes sense right now.  everything else is just—  the world is so loud.  and the only time it feels quiet is when you’re here.  ”

“  i don’t know how to talk about shit okay?  it’s too hard.  but i do care.  i need you to trust me that i care.  ”

 “  stop punishing yourself.  you wanna make up for what you’ve done?  get off your ass and do something about it.  ”

“  whatever it is you think was going on between us,  you’re wrong.  ”

“  i feel like i’m one bad day away from becoming everything i’ve fought against.  ” 

“  stop pushing me away.  i’m not going anywhere,  asshole.  and as soon as you get that through that thick skull of yours,  the better.  ”

“  i can’t trust myself.  if i let myself get comfortable enough,  when i try to be happy,  people get hurt.  ”  

“  people like me don’t get to have peace.  ”  

“  i’m not the person you want.  i know you think i am.  but it won’t take long for you to realize this is a mistake.  ”  

“  you want the truth?  the truth is when i love people it burns inside me like a poison.  it infects every part of me until it feels like they’re in my goddamn soul…and then i fuck it up.  and it’ll destroy us both.  ”  

“  i’ll always choose you.  that’s the worst part of it all.  i’d choose you over and over, even though i know you wouldn’t do the same.  ”  

“  you never had to be perfect.  you just had to stay.  ”
