What I expected to learn and what I learned in my Full Sail University course, Artist and Product Management !
At the start of this course, “Artist and Product Management”, by the title I assumed that we would learn about ways to manage artists and their products. In this final week of the course, I think it’s safe to say that, for the most part, that’s exactly what we covered all month. In week one, we touched on business relationships, networking, and how experience plays a massive role in opportunities. In week 2, we researched and discussed talent managing agencies. This helped us understand what to know about agencies, what they could offer, not only in means of finances and compensation but in resource power for pushing our brand to success. We also dug into our goals and timelines to stay on top of that. In week 3 which was my personal favorite so far, we researched and created actual products for scenario celebrities. I decided to create products for my own business since that’s what I’m focused on. I created merchandise such as artistic posters, stickers, and a super fan discount card! I had no idea that product existed already until I researched that Taylor Swift had one going already! It was fun to put ideas into actionable steps by using the research data and methods we had learned. Now I have a better idea of what to do for merchandise for my brand, TrueWork. In week 4, we’re going to tie everything together with some information we learned from the asynchronous lecture and other videos. We’re going to cover best practices in the industry to get our brains going on what we should keep a keen eye on as we enter the entertainment and talent business world either as an artist, a manager, or even in some other method such as joining the film industry.
