Emmeline might have been born in Sutton, Massachusetts, but she was raised by her father in southern France for nearly a decade and a half of her life; her parents had separated shortly after she was born, and while she spent her summers with her mother in Sutton, she spent most of her year in Avignon with her father. Living both in the States and France helped Emmeline develop a fluent knowledge of both English and French, though sometimes she feels more comfortable speaking French.

When she was sixteen years old, her father passed away in a fatal car accident, and she was sent back to Sutton to permanently reside with her mother. After losing her mother as well just over a year later, Emmeline moved in with her grandparents, and that’s when her real problems began. Growing up, Emmeline had noticed that her eyes lingered on not only men but other women as well. It had never really been a big deal to her, but when her grandparents found out…well, it had almost been like the world had come to an end.Life with her grandparents turned into quite the stressful ordeal as soon as they found out about her sexuality. Rebelling a bit against her old-fashioned grandparents, Emmeline started flaunting girl after girl in front of her grandparents (both girlfriends and random flings) just in an attempt to force them to accept her for who she was, but it seemed to have the opposite effect. Instead, her relationship with her grandparents became even more strained. She consistently fought with her grandmother about their family image and her reputation, but Emmeline ignored it all. She hadn’t really cared what people thought about her before, and she wasn’t about to start now.

In an effort to get away from the stifling atmosphere that surrounded her grandparents, Emmeline left home as soon as she could do so. Initially, she moved to Los Angeles to become an actress - mainly as a stab at her grandparents who had always wanted her to be a doctor or a lawyer or something they deemed ‘respectable’. She enrolled in the Los Angeles branch of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts mainly because of how many famous alumni the school boasted of. She hadn’t actually expected to fall in love with what she was doing. Life in LA moved much faster than what she was used to, but oddly enough the pace worked well for Emmeline; in fact, she thrived off of it. She had to work hard to get what she wanted, but that was no problem for her. Throughout her years there, she was cast in a few background roles in some B-list movies, but being cast in the ensemble of Mamma Mia in Los Angeles’ theatre district really awoke a new passion inside of her that she hadn’t known was there.

Graduating at the top of her class, Emmeline has spent the last seven months in the ensemble cast of the nationwide tour of Wicked - nervously cast as Elphaba’s understudy as well. When the show ended its tour in New York City, Emmeline fell in love all over again, but this time with the city. The decision to shift her life from Los Angeles to New York City hadn’t been a hard one for her to make, especially knowing that her cousin was living in the city as well. Since moving to the city, she’s been in multiple productions both on and off Broadway, though she’s only been cast in the lead in a few off-Broadway productions; the one she’s the most proud of is her work as Nadia in Bare: A Pop Opera.

If you wanted to find a real life definition of the phrase ‘turn for the unexpected’ then you should look no further for Julian Carmine Hummel. There’ve been many instances throughout his life that went in a completely different direction than the one he anticipated. Of course, this wasn’t always a negative thing, because in many instances these changes steered him down the path he was actually meant to take. Such as his junior year of high school, when his guidance counselor called him in to talk about college and pointed out that even though he was pretty much guaranteed a scholarship by being a great soccer player as well as swimmer, many admissions departments also wanted students who were well rounded. So, she pointed him in the direction of the school’s drama club. Admittedly, Julian brushed this off at first, but when word got around that the musical would be none other than High School Musical then his attention shifted and he supposed he was more of a sucker for the series than he originally believed. Getting cast as Ryan Evans definitely threw him for a loop, however what shocked him even more was that he didn’t want to say goodbye to the friends he’d made in drama club. Maybe it was just his over the top loyalty shining through, yet combined with the adrenaline rush performing had brought out, Julian officially added drama to his list of extracurriculars.

Still, his mind just wouldn’t deviate completely from working hard on academics or giving soccer and swimming everything he had. Plus, a tad bit of insecurity came into play, because there were friends of his who’d been on stage probably since they could talk. Julian was a newcomer and had probably gotten the role through pure dumb luck. Thing is that deep down, he was still the same kid who simply dreamed of making his family proud, so quitting was nowhere near an option. When the time came to choose a path to take, Julian decided to major in musical theatre while also continuing to play soccer and swim. It would take plenty of hard work, especially at college level, but thank goodness he was already used to giving everything one hundred percent.

Time passed and eventually, a routine of balance was somehow discovered. Of course, the universe decided to throw Julian a curveball as it usually did whenever he got too comfortable. Both the swim and soccer coaches got fired under mysterious circumstances, which effectively cancelled both sports until replacements could be hired. That was the incentive Julian needed to focus completely on his major for the rest of his college career, which definitely gained the attention of a professor who had some connections in the theatre world. There was this musical that was looking for a male lead and it was called Be More Chill. After stuffing down his insecurities then auditioning, he received the long awaited phone call two days later, that he got the role of Jeremy Heere.

Fast forward to a few months ago. During a late night Google search odyssey, Julian stumbled across a review of Be More Chill. Everyone in the cast and crew had their praises sung by the reporter, everyone except him that is. Now, normally, this Hummel is more likely to react to an insult related to a loved one than one about himself, but for some reason that review stuck with him. All of sudden, the old spark had vanished and Julian took up a teaching assistant position for one of his favorite professors, the one who had gotten him roped into the production in the first place. There was no bad blood between the two, because the blame rested on Julian’s shoulders alone, he’d earned the criticisms on his own. As a result, a vow was made to never set foot in a theatre again.
