Israel Keyes was an American serial killer who enjoyed the thrill that accompanied a kill. He was known to study serial killers and their modus operandi so that he could devise his own methods. He committed a string of rapes and murders, beginning in the 1990′s until he was apprehended in 2012. He confessed to killing at least 8 people - he raped and killed mostly women but on at least one occasion, he killed a couple. He lived in numerous states over the years and authorities have tried to link him to multiple unsolved murder cases. He also confessed to committing bank robberies in New York and Texas. Keyes had hidden “murder kits” around various areas in the USA - the sole purpose to dispatch and dispose of victims if he ever felt the urge to kill nearby. His last known murder is that of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who was a barista which worked in Anchorage, Alaska. He kidnapped her and raped and strangled her to death. He then took her body and hid it in a shed for two weeks while he went on a cruise. After those two weeks, he returned to her body, taped open her eyes to make her appear to be alive and took a photograph of the girl with a newspaper to prove the date. He then wrote a ransom note demanding $30,000 from her family. He then dismembered her body and disposed of it in a frozen lake. The ransom note was paid and police were able to track Keyes down and apprehend him. During questioning, he was often asked “Why?” to which he always replied “Why not?” He was linked to at least 11 murders but it is believed that he killed many more. He lived in numerous states over the years and was somewhat transient and travelled frequently. Authorities have been attempting to link him to multiple unsolved murder cases. On 2 December, 2012, he committed suicide in his jail cell.

Henri Landru was a French serial killer in the 20th century who had a victim count of 11 under his belt. In 1915, Henri began placing ads in the lonely hearts section in Paris newspapers, usually something along the lines of  ‘’Widower with two children, aged 43, with comfortable income, serious and moving in good society, desires to meet widow with a view to matrimony. ’’ Many women eagerly responded to his ads and they would move in with him in his rented villas. After a short amount of time, Henri would kill his victims and burn their remains in his oven. Afterward, he sold their securities and possessions. Eventually, in 1919, the sister of one of his victims, who was on a mission to track down her missing sibling, pushed for police to arrest Henri. When they searched his house, they found many valuables that belonged to the missing women. Henri was found guilty at his trial and met the guillotine on February 23, 1922. His severed head is now showcased in the Museum of Death.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier appearing in court on August 21, 2015, to plead not guilty to first-degree attempted murder. Just the year before, the girls, then 12, lured a classmate into the woods where they stabbed her a total of 19 times before leaving her for dead. The victim survived. Morgan and Anissa had been plotting to kill her in order to appease online fictional character Slender Man. They will be tried as adults and could face up to 65 years in prison.

Stacey was eventually charged and found guilty of murder. She was sentenced to 51 years in prison.

On January 15, 1947, a woman discovered a body in two pieces on a vacant lot. Severed at the waist, the woman’s corpse was entirely drained of blood. Her face had been slashed from the corners of her mouth to her ears, creating the Glasglow smile. There were several cuts on her thighs and breasts where chunks of her flesh had been removed. The killer had washed the body before strategically placing her on the lot, posing her in such a way that her arms were over her head, her elbows bent at right angles, and her legs spread wide apart. The body was identified as 21-year-old Elizabeth Short, whom the public nicknamed ‘’The Black Dahlia’’. The autopsy revealed ligature marks on her ankles, wrists, and neck, as well as bruises and blood on her scalp, indicating she’d suffered blows to the head. The case attracted nationwide attention, and although over 50 men have come forward and confessed to the crime, the true culprit behind the grisly murder remains a mystery.
