he wonders breifly for a moment how exactly it was that they convinced steve to stick around for all this , if for no other reasons than moments like this . troy bolton isn't quite a newcomer but he feels like one . you've seen him around , everyone kind of knows him in the same way everyone knows of steve . similar circles . you've never heard a bad thing but he's still a jock . still a member of the same basketball team led by a guy thats currently supporting a pretty terrible scientific theory . the one claiming you are a literal devil . so maybe not scientific . lucas seems to like him , and that goes a long way , but there's still a CAUTION there . one that keeps putting space (a couple of foot , minimum) between you ever since you regrouped with the party .
that caution FAILS now . " all we have is bad information . it's not gonna get much better . " despite all the issues making you hesitant to trust a guy who has only ever lingered at the edges of your social circle , you offer up as much sympathy as you can . finding out about any of this was a one way ticket to never feeling safe again . one step in the door and you fall down a deep , DARK , hole of conspiracies and death . when he decided to try & help lucas out on the team , take him under his wing the first day of practices , never in a milion years would troy think that it would lead him here , right now . a frown plays on his lips as he watches lucas' friend , his arms crossing loosely over his chest , as will talks . he's not entirely wrong ; maybe troy did need to know more about what was going on , not exactly big on the idea of practically just dropping off a kid with his friends to deal with - well , whatever the hell was going on , especially when jason's practically lost his mind anyway . sure , it's not like they were all on their own , but still .
" i didn't say i was going to go , " he protests , shifting his weight from one foot to the other a little uncomfortably . his hand only moves from its position to rake fingers through dark hair for a moment before he folds it back over . " i just ... what you're saying right now has kind of been a lot to take in , you know ? " he points out , eyes darting away from a moment before teeth sink into the inside of his cheek for a moment . " what else could there be , anyway ? "
