Spivak: “One responsibility of the critic might be to read and write so that the impossibility of such interested individualistic refusals of the institutional privileges of power bestowed on the subject is taken seriously.”
The key to a healthy heart is a diet full of fiber, and Emmi Khan is ensuring her heart—and lungs and brain—don't miss out. The Cardiff-based artist embroiders anatomically accurate organs and systems, from a multicolored double helix to a profile view of facial vessels. The artist often weaves in f

Tapestry design by Gunta Stölzl, produced by the Bauhaus in 1926. Gunta #Stölzl (1897-1983) was a German textile artist who played a fundamental role in the development of the Bauhaus school’s weaving workshop. As the Bauhaus’s only female master she created enormous change within the weaving department as it transitioned from individual pictorial works to modern industrial designs. She was inspired by Johannes Itten, who also taught at Bauhaus, and Itten’s works exploring the use and composition of color.
An instruction manual for weavers working in 1820s France.
This instruction manual was probably made for a school associated with a textile manufactory.
The book starts with the history of silk and talks about “contemporary” silk makers in Spain, Italy, and France in the early 19th century. It also contains info on silkworm breeding, the composition of materials like gauze and damask, and includes samples.

Encephalartos horridus
It is always something of an event when we have a cycad produce a cone. In this case it is Encephalartos horridus, the famous “blue cycad” of South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province. Those leaflets are as sharp as they look - not a plant to back into! This is a female plant, with a wider cone than the male ones.

one of my fave plant things is that cycads (these kind of prehistoric plants):
are full of neurotoxin and the scientific stance on this is “well that prob didnt kill the dinosaurs but it def didnt help”
