Time for more updated pokemon champion headcanons now that origin and phaesporia have taken over my Pokemon otps. Oh yeah, most of these are mainly for the first six gens.
Lance is on the asexual spectrum and intersex, however, I’ve headcanoned Lance as intersex for quite a while now. Steven is gay. Wallace is pan and trans. Cynthia is a lesbian. She isn’t butch in my headcanon though. Diantha is bisexual. Iris is just demisexual and Alder is just an ally trying to live life. N is asexual. Geeta to me is the only one who really reads as hard straight imo, but tbf I haven’t played SV because I’m poor and broke and a college student.
N and Lance just watch how lovey dovey origin and phaesporia are, and they just act like it’s a zoo. They don’t really understand it, but that’s the beauty of love. They don’t mind.
N is more sex repulsed than Lance. N is genuinely disgusted by the act of sex. However, he’s not rude about it. Lance just doesn’t like having sex.
Lance often plays as third wheel for both phaesporia and originshipping. It all started because Wallace asked Lance to be his wingman for his date with Steven. A guy who privy to this only had a professional relationship with Steven before origin’s first ever date. And then Cynthia saw how well Lance worked with Steven, so she asked him to wingman for her on phaesporia’s first date. Only that time Lance actually knew who Diantha was because they went to boarding school in Galar together.
Three out of the Champions have had exes. And for two of them they had Lance as a romantic partner. Wallace dated Lance during their late teens early twenties. This was before Wallace transitioned and Lance was confident enough to come out. Diantha on the other hand dated Lance a few years before Wallace. Lance didn’t know that he was asexual at that point though. Wallace and Diantha both joke around that Lance is a player. Lance doesn’t mind it. He’s been called worse by others (Clair).
Lance has the most exes out of all the champions. He’s dated Diantha, then Wallace, then Lorelei off and on before, after, and in between Lance’s relationships between Diantha and Wallace. Not to mention he’s dated Valerie before Diantha, but after his first breakup with Lorelei. All of Lance’s breakups were all mutual and healthy except for Lorelei. Lance was just experimenting. He figured he wasn’t finding the right the woman his family wanted him to marry but then turned out he was just asexual the whole time.
Because of how many exes he’s had, Lance often gets relationship questions from origin and phaesporia. And all Lance can say is “what do you want me to do? i’m asexual!” It does not help his case. He’s gotten to the point where he pushes Steven to ask his dad, Cynthia Sycamore, Diantha Drasna, and Wallace his sister. Alder then takes up Lance’s mantle as the relationship guru when Lance is too busy.
The role of Champion is kinda like the government but also not at the same time. Like, champion in a government sense is what the champion at the time decides to do during their reign. Lance obviously takes a more protective role in government, being more of an ethical law enforcement for Kanto/Johto. Steven is more of a economics and treasurer person for Hoenn while Wallace manages stuff like medicare and cultural inclusion and representation of minorities. Cynthia is more of a mediator type person and gives insight based on history. Alder barely touches the government. But he makes sure Unova doesn’t fall under a dictatorship at times. N doesn’t have a role. Iris is a representative for younger people. Diantha takes charge of the censorship department. She ensures there’s free speech in Kalos. Leon is like Alder where he just doesn’t fulfill a political role much. But he does the Galarian government’s dirty work. He’s more of a figure head. Geeta is in charge of education.
Alongside a requirement to take part in some kind of political position, the champions also manage the league. They order the badges, the equipment, the supplies. They fund repairs and rennovations for all league buildings and gym challenge buildings. Pokemarts and Pokemon Centers are funded by the league champion using the funds the governments set for the champions. The champions oversee the type specialties too. If a leader wants to change types, they have to take it up to the champion. For example, Whitney wanted to change to fairy, but Lance reasoned that the gym challenge would be almost near impossible, not to mention the funds couldn’t ever provide for a rebrand like that.
The champions share a vacation home. It’s somewhere probably up north above a snowy town. I’ve always made it a coin toss between the two ice gym cities in Sinnoh or Kalos. I’ve also geared it to be in Unova as well. I’ve always imagined the Champions’ vacation home somewhere in the snow because I love snow.
Leon doesn’t get along with all of the champions. Geeta gets along swimmingly with Steven. And she can even make a few jokes with N. Leon is a completely different story. It’s not like they hate him or anything. It’s just that he’s never really dedicated any time to deepen bonds past that professional capacity.
Diantha Lance Wallace Steven and Cynthia were in a friend group before becoming champions. They’re their closest friends. They almost are like a second or third family together. Wallace and Steven started dating, and then Cynthia and Diantha started dating shortly after. Like two days after. And Lance just became the asexual they adopted as a babysitter for the kids.
Cynthia and Steven are good friends. Many people in public think they’re dating. They aren’t. But they were in a lavender relationship before coming out to the public.
Wallace and Lance genuinely hate Leon over his cape. And it’s hillarious for the other champions in their friend group. Wallace and Lance always side eye Leon. Leon is oblivious to the whole thing. I know the whole cape Wallace thing was because of the title of champion is signified as a cape back then in the games, but I personally disregard canon because this head canon is funnier. Wallace wears a cape for style is honestly disgusted by Leon’s wack ass cape. Wallace calls it a rug. Lance wears his cape for his clan’s sacred traditions. He thinks it’s a disgrace to his type specialty and culture.
Here’s like the order of how I perceive the champions oldest to youngest: Alder, Geeta, Diantha, Lance (Diantha and Lance are born the same year just Lance was born later in the year and Diantha was born the second day of the year), Steven and Wallace tie being born the same day same year, same exact time of day, Cynthia, N, Iris.
