Recently I have seen all of my friends including my roommates posing for self-portraits as often as they send text messages.  Not only were they posing for self-portraits, but their faces weren’t very pretty.  In fact, it seemed that the uglier the face the better!  When I asked what they were doing they looked at me completely dumbfounded.  They said they were Snapchatting... duh!  Snachatting I said?  What on earth is that.  Although I am still young I feel I’m often out of the loop with what the coolest trend is.  After waiting a couple of weeks I finally gave in and made my own Snapchat, and I must say I think I am addicted.  Even though it seems so silly that you could just send funny pictures to all of your friends through text messaging, I really have no idea why it is so much fun.   For those of you who do not have one yet let me explain and possibly persuade you to get in on the new trend.  All you have to do is make a username and from there you can add any of your friends to Snap with from your contact list.  Once you add them you and your friends can snap pictures together.  You can take individual pictures and send them to each of your friends or send the same picture to multiple people.  You can even write a little message on the picture.  The trick is you can only view the picture for a certain amount of time.  Once you have viewed it for say five seconds you can never open it again.  Essentially, you could send the ugliest photo of your life and your friend would never have any proof!  You can screen shot the picture, but it will notify the person and you’ll be caught red handed.  I think it is pretty funny because my girlfriends will send pictures right when they wake up with no makeup on, making a face I know they would never want anyone to see.  It is a great way to have fun and keep in touch with all of your friends!  Happy Snapping :)

Even though it is week seven and I feel like I might actually be dead now, I am looking forward to a nice, long and relaxing weekend!  Starting on Wednesday I will be preparing for this nice little break by getting a manicure and pedicure in the morning and getting tanned later on that night.  It’s not what you think... I will not look like a pumpkin, but rather just look like I may have gone to the beach in winter.  Although in this 90 degree whether I suppose I could just lay outside for a bit.  But what college student has time for that realistically?  I sure don’t!  I’d rather just pay and have it done instantly, especially for a special occasion.  The first event I have is on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is a fundraiser for my moms auxiliary, Bonnes Meres.  I am excited to go this year because not only is it for a great cause and all proceeds go The Children’s Fund, but my mom is the chair of decorations.  She has been working really hard all year to make this event as successful as possible.  A delicious lunch and refreshments will be served as well as getting to view all of the items up for auction.  Later that night I will be attending date party for my boyfriend’s fraternity which should be equally as fun!  It is in a secret location is Los Angeles, so it will be a surprise to see where our destination is.  Friday I have then taken off work because it is my last Crown Cotillion for Zeta Tau Alpha!  I can still remember my first one like it is yesterday, but I am hoping this one will be the best yet.  The fun weekend continues because I am only working a half day on Saturday and I don’t have work at all on Sunday.  To make it even better Monday is a holiday, therefore there is no school!  I am looking so forward to catching up on sleep and not having so much stress on my shoulders, at least for a few days.

I just finished writing my field assignment!  Now that calls for a celebration!  Just kidding... but I am pretty relieved to check that off my list.  Even though it’s done I am going to wait at least until tomorrow to turn it in.  I have learned throughout my past experience for reporting one as well as the Poly Post that it is best to leave my assignments for a while and then come back to proof read them.  Sometimes when I have been working on something for such a long time I start to fill in my own thoughts because I am used to my own writing.  Since I worked so hard on this I don’t want to turn in anything with stupid mistakes!  Normally I am not assigned sports stories but this one was actually kind of fun.  Billy Nottingham who was my subject for the athlete profile has moved to three different schools for baseball throughout his college career, finally ending here at Cal Poly Pomona.  Although the adjustment from a division one to a division two school was kind of difficult, he is enjoying the sense of family that the CPP team brings.  He is also enjoying being closer to home since he lives about 40 minutes away in Redlands.  Some difficulties I had with this assignment was getting GOOD interviews where the person I interviewed actually said something helpful or useful to my story.  I feel like this is often a problem because people tend to freak out on the spot.  I used mostly direct quotes from Billy himself as well as his coach because his teammates were more difficult to pull information out of.  Overall though I think he was a good subject and offered a lot of content and information for me to talk about in my story.  Hopefully I get an A ;) ;) (Spoon I hope you actually read this one!)

I find it very rare to meet people who can actually say without a doubt that they love their job, especially at such a young age.  I feel so fortunate to have a job that not only pays really well, but also bring me so much joy.  Some of you may know, but I work at Center Ice Arena in Ontario teaching ages from 4 to 50.  I only work on weekends because of my crazy school schedule, and although it is tiring at times, I always leave with a smile on my face.  I have about eight private students now as well as teach group classes on Friday and Saturday.  Some of my private students are now up to the level of doing a few basic competitions.  Since figure skating has always been a huge part of my life, it is fun to see the same joy in their face that I had every time they come to skate.  The competition is coming up in November and I am excited for them all to get out there and show what they have been working so hard on.  I think most of them are more excited about the theme and costume not the actual competition, but either way most of them are around six or seven so at that age that is completely fine.  My highest level student, Michelle is competing basic six where she will perform the skills of inside three-turns, a spiral and lunge all while trying to make the program flow together to her music from the “Mulan” soundtrack.  My other two students doing the competition are actually cousins and will be competing against each other at basic three.  Even though they are cousins, they each have completely separate talents.  Oma is a really good listener and tries to do everything exactly how I explain it to her, but doesn’t have that natural artistic flare.  Vanessa on the other hand is naturally artistic and really knows how to perform, but struggles on the technicality of the elements at times.  No matter the outcome I will be a proud coach when they step out on the ice!

It’s October which can only mean one thing... PINK, PINK, and more PINK!  From the grocery stores to the NFL, October means teaming up to fight breast cancer.  This week my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has their pink tent set up on campus to raise awareness and educate Cal Poly Pomona students about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.  As our national philanthropy, we are so excited to be a part of such an amazing cause.  Yesterday several of my sisters volunteered for the THINK PINK! San Diego Charger’s game.  Although I didn’t get to go, last year I had such a blast passing out pink ribbons to tailgaters before the game.  This year many of them got to hold the American flag as well as the breast cancer ribbon in the pre-game show.  All of the players were wearing pink gloves to show their support and the stands were filled with fans wearing our pink ribbons that we passed out as well.  In addition, they all got to stay and watch the game in the front row!  It is such an amazing experience to know that by being in ZTA you are spreading so much awareness and helping women all over the world.  Next week is our fourth annual THINK PINK! week.  We have tons of fun events for the entire CPP community to get involved in.  On Tuesday at U-hour we will be having a Yoplait Yogurt eating contest at the University Park.  On Wednesday we will be holding a profit share at Buffalo Wild Wings along with a “blazin’ wings” challenge at 8 p.m.  Thursday at U-hour we will have a bake-off and Friday will be our pink-out men’s soccer game against Cal State Dominguez Hills starting at 6:30 p.m.  All of the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, so come out and support!

Let’s start with the good news!  I absolutely love fall and today it officially felt like it from the weather to the leaves changing to the pretty colors of red, yellow and orange.  As I woke up for class I broke out my new jeans, a black quarter length sleeve shirt and my favorite boots.  It was the first day I could dress like this and not feel as if the clothes on my body literally might melt off the second I stepped outside.  That was probably the best part of my day since I have never been so stressed in only the third week of school.  I slowly feel myself going insane and delusional at the same time.  I don’t even know if that’s possible but that’s the only accurately way to describe the way I feel right now.  I knew that taking 18 units would be extra hard this quarter because of the core classes I was taking, but I never thought it could be this bad.  I feel as if I barely have time to breathe let alone eat or have any type of a social life.  For example, today I left in plenty of time, (45 minutes to be exact) and I only live in Diamond Bar to get to school and find parking before my 11:45 class.  To my horrification, the parking at Cal Poly is out to get me so I drove around for approximately 45 minutes wasting my time and energy into something that should never ruin your day.  After my 11:45-12:50 class I usually have a small break from 1:00 to 2:00 to grab lunch and relax but today I had to meet with my group for a class project to finish up some last minute details.  As it turns out, it took the entire hour, and I absolutely can’t be late for my 2:00 class.  As a result, I had to go without eating anything.  All I brought for a snack was a 90 calorie Kellogg Bar and some pretzels and string cheese.  After devouring that in class, I have another class from 4:00 to 5:50.  The second I got out of class I’m pretty sure I was going 90 MPH to get to Chipotle as fast as my car could drive me before I passed out from starvation.  I know that this is just a preview of my life until this quarter is over.

So as I enter my last year, I am looking forward to seeing the look on every new girls face, the look that I know I will be missing ever October from here on out.
