Triptych 2017 Group 1

GARMENTS Meccano can be easily detached, fabric can be used for isolation material for buildings. Ready to wear will be rented among our group members, or even sold to students. (there is interest!!!)

BRAND BOOK & COLLECTION BOOK Given away as a gift/poster

3D INSTALLATION Will be given to a Primary School where it will be re-used for materials and as play-installation. Pipes will be detached and go back to Sven´s family.

LEFT OVER FABRICS Leftovers from garments were used as much as possible for give aways and the collection book. Also, they will be used by the group for refurnishing of their own furniture or clothes, Designers need it for next projects, small pieces at AMFI boxes

The group members who are planned in to build the installation went to Het Sierrad, the other ones met at Wibauthuis at 8:30. The 3D Installation was almost finished, only attaching the photoshoot pictures, the music box and some other details are left for tomorrow. At Wibauthuis, we created the Collection Book and and worked on the Business Pitch. Moreover, we made giveaway bracelets out of threads and meccano pieces. We also decided on  the finals photoshoot pictures, which came out amazing! In the evening, we ordered some pizza with (almost) everyone to come together one more time before the big day and create a team feeling! 

Our group met at 9am to focus on the 3D Installation. Tomorrow, we need to transport it to Het Sieraad, so we want to finish the separated parts today and only put it together and take care of the details on Monday.  First, we made holes into the surface and connected the fence to rings and the chains We covered the massive shape with dark blue fabric, fixed the hem onto the inside of the construction and gathered the surface. We stitched Meccano pieces, both small parts and constructed longer parts onto the surface.  In the evening, our designer finished illustrations of the line-up for the collection book. 

BRAND BOOK Process & Main Decision Making 

Starting Point

Layout and idea to turn brand book into posters was clear from first day. Starting points for visuals were mood boards of concept phase. 

Development

There were some adjustments and changes during the brand book making.  For the poster, the first idea was to use one picture as a poster. Problem was, that is was not communicating our brand identity completely, as well as it looked too commercial.  The mood board images did not fit anymore to the final concept because of the design, so the visuals were changed. We also added stripes of paper with vision, mission and sustainability into the book which can be pulled out. The brand book can be taken apart and give away to people. To strengthen our philosophy of uniting people together, we added a sentence at the bottom of the pages.  “We encourage you to share this poster with your surroundings to combine perspectives”

COLLECTION Process & Main Decision Making

Starting Point

Our main starting point for the design process were the fabrics. From the start on, we knew we wanted to base our concept on the fabrics we had and not the other way around. So the materials were a inspiration for the visualisation of our brand. Afterwards, this became a core value of our brand; working with what you have on hand.

Development

First on the design team started with drawing silhouettes, based on the sourced materials. By that time the concept team had visuals for us to work with and get inspired for more detailed designing. Everyone in the design team made designs as a starting point to see what everyone got out of the brand images. From there on we searched for similarities. After we discussed the similarities, we came up with design elements; the toolbox. With the toolbox in mind we started designing again. We made dessicions for the designs by putting the designs on a wall and making links between the designs and the images, laying colours next to it and trying out orders.

While realising the garment, we made some adjustments in de designs. We sat together with different people within our group to make sure that the design changes would still fit the concept. 

Final

WIELAND TEXTILES:

We found Wieland Textiles as possible material suppliers on DLWO, so we contacted them via Email. Wieland Textiles collects post-consumer waste by giving second hand clothing an after life. We got invited to come over and take anything we need. On Friday, some team members went there to collect fabrics of garments and household textiles. We collected mainly fabrics out of natural fibres and natural colours. 

MECCANO: First, we called a Toystore, they said we have to contact Spinmaster, because they own Meccano. The desk person gave us the number of a Meccano spokesperson. We explained our story and he was very enthusiastic about it. We send concept images and text about the assignment, sustainability specifically. He provided us with a lot of various Meccano pieces, which were for example used for displays and could not be sold anymore, or were try outs and samples. He only wants a show video and shoot pictures later. 

BLUE LAB: 

Blue Lab is a denim and innovation laundry center located in Amsterdam. Blue Lab has all kind of equipment that a denim laundry might have; washing machines, dryers, ozone, laser, scraping and spraying units.  From Blue Lab we got leftover tryout fabrics, for example after washing or dying process. These fabrics otherwise would have been thrown away. Not only did we use the fabric to construct new garments, but also to create finishings or accessories.

Our brand only uses used materials or leftovers for our garments and installation as far as possible. This allowed us to be sustainable and do not create unnecessary waste. Moreover, we did not need to use money to be able to create. We only paid the travelling cost and food for models, photographer and make up artist, as well as printing, stamp and small materials for the installation, which we could not avoid. We realised, that we can create GREAT, BEAUTIFUL things out of qualitative “Waste”!
