some research pax did about tomatos!
- aztecs grew and named tomatos
- back in the day, people ate tomatos and became ill or died, but it was the plates they were eating on and not the tomatos. the plates contained lead which caused lead poisoning.
- adding onto the last point, in the 18th century, tomatos were nicknamed "poison apple" because of the rich people falling ill and dying "from them".
- the topic on is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable was so controversial that it went to the supreme court due to the tariff act of 1883, they had to declare if a tomato was a fruit or vegetable because it would change if it was tax exempt or not. it was ruled to be a vegetable but i believe it is a fruit. this topic is still heavily debated to this day.
- fun fact: tomatos are my favorite fruit/vegetable!
