The West Mebon is a temple at Angkor, Cambodia, located in the center of the West Baray, the largest reservoir of the Angkor area. The temple's date of construction is not known, but evidence suggests the 11th Century during the reign of King Suryavaraman I and Udayadityavaraman II.
Khmer architects typically surrounded temples with moats that represent the Hindu sea of creation. The West Mebon, located amid waters so vast that they can seem like a real sea, takes this religious symbolism to the ultimate level.
In 1936, the West Mebon yielded up the largest known bronze sculpture in Khmer art, a fragment of the reclining Hindu god Vishnu. The fragment includes the god's head, upper torso and two right arms. The statue, which incomplete form would have measured about six meters long, entered the collection of the National Museum in Phnom Penh.

The temple is surrounded by two ramparts-inside and outside rampart. #TheRoyalPalacePhnomPenh The Royal Palace (French: Palais royal de Phnom Penh), in Phnom Penh Cambodia is a complex of buildings which serves as the royal residence of the king of Cambodia. Its full name in the Khmer language is Preah Barum Reachea Veang Chaktomuk Serei Mongkol (Khmer: αααααααααΆαααΆααα αα»αα»ααα·ααΈααααα). The king of Cambodia have occupied it since it was built in the 1860s (construction start in 1866 by Neak Okhna Tep Nimith Mak), with a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge. The palace was constructed after King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh in the mid-19th century. It was built atop an old citadel called Banteay Kev. It faces towards the East and is situated at the Western bank of the cross division of the Tonle Sap River and the Mekong River called Chaktumok. #PuppetShadow or #LkounSbaek The Ancient Art of Cambodia Shadow Puppetry. The ancient art of shadow puppetry, or sbaek in Khmer, has been performed in Cambodia for thousands of years. Here, we look at its history and where visitors can catch shows. The Shadow Theater has appeared every year in Khmer history. Although during the Khmer Rouge regime, the Shadow Theater was virtually eliminated, with one-third of the population died and the majority of the countryβs artists were targeted, the art form has undergone a resurgence in recent decades. Today, there are two types of puppetry, sbek thom and sbek thoch. Both of these models use leather puppets to represent old stories on a white screen that is lit from behind by burning the coconut shell, creating shadows that the audience can see. Puppetry is a kind of sacred tradition from the time of Angkor. This is reflected in reliefs from the 7th century Sambor Prei Kuk temple in Kampong Thom, showing the image of the puppetry ceremony. https://www.instagram.com/p/B35o9sqFq-1/?igshid=1avbtzcgn4rv3
