I know I'm never on since I've graduated from the program but I thought I would check back in and post some updates! There's my boyfriend Ande in the grey, current team leader of Alpine 7 from the southwest region getting his hair cut by one of his corps members! Always a good time when corps members turn into your beauty buddies. Last year I dyed my Team leaders hair..twice!
Thought this might be fun to watch for anyone in or interested in americorps nccc to see all the fun you can have!
Southwest Region Spotlight: Team Leaders in Training
In Denver, Colorado, Class 22 Team Leaders spent the month of September completing Team Leader Training (TLT). The 35 Team Leaders used this month to prepare for the arrival of over 300 Corps Members in early October. TLT focused on an array of topics including supervisory skills, diversity, and NCCC policies and procedures. Some highlights of TLT included camping at the Cal-Wood Education Center, completing an intensive chainsaw training class, and challenging comfort levels at a high-ropes course at the Genesee Experiential Outdoor Center.

Southwest Region Spotlight: Graduation Day
They lived in tents, provided relief to communities stricken by disaster, mentored disadvantaged youth, coordinated volunteers, and developed into our nation’s future leaders. With about 363,627 hours of service and 105 projects under their issued black belts, 262 Denver-based members of AmeriCorps NCCC graduated on Friday, July 24.

Hey, the $5,550 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for tuition or student loans. Can it be used for something else or only educational purposes?
It can be used to pay for your loans or tuition or programs that further your education! It can't be just given to you in cash, used for an apartment or car etc. it must be used for educational purposes. There should be a staff member at your campus who had all the info on how to use it and what you can and can't use it for!
Photo curtesy of the AmeriCorps NCCC Southwest Region Campus Facebook page! In processing has begun and today was everyone's first full day of CTI! I have a friend from my home town on the Earth unit (she was in California last year) and a friend I met on my year of service in Alpine unit (previously fire unit which was our unit last year)! I've talked to both of them and they're enjoying it so far! This picture is of Ande (Alpine UDA) taking corps member ID photos! Welcome class 22A!
Incoming class:
If you follow this blog and you are an incoming member of the Southwest region class I want to wish you all good luck and have a safe trip to Denver tomorrow. I would love to hear any and all stories you have on the next year of your service! I will still be occasionally posting on here whether it be stories or advice! Good luck Class 22A!
Since I've been home I've done a lot of amazing things! I spent most of August with my boyfriend in Maine, we went camping on the Saco River and just hung out with his family! I've also spent a lot of time at home. Seeing old friends and close friends, some pictured here, watching my nephew Carter a lot. As well as looking for jobs! I got a part time job at Lush Cosmetics and am working on finding a full time nanny job!

Ande has started his year as a team leader! He is currently attending Team Leader Training in Denver for the southwest region campus! As well as two other past teammates, Hakeem and Hailey!
Just an update
So without giving out too much detail there has been some changes in my plans for a second year. I was originally supposed to go back to the Southwest region campus in Denver, Colorado and some switches remade and then I was supposed to go to the Pacific Coast region in Sacramento, California. After a lot of thought and gaining advice in weighing out my options to stay home in Massachusetts and save my money while working so I can move out sometime late next year. While I would've loved to go back to Denver for a second year it just really is impossible right now and I know it is best for me to stay home and work on the next chapter of my life. So I am happy doing that! I will keep this blog open for questions or if anyone needs advice and I will still occasionally post updates on anything from AmeriCorps alumni things, stories from my term of service, themed posts or (with my friends permission) stories from their second year of service as well as some advice for people who may want to become team leaders since my boyfriend is currently a team leader at the Southwest region campus. I would also love to hear other people's stories from their term(s) of service in any AmeriCorps program!
My friend Liz, who was my first friend in the program and my round 2b teammate! Just posted this on my wall. Her and another AmeriAlum from our unit moved out to denver together after the program and got chickens! This was a hammock we shared at South Mountain Park in Phoenix Arizona! Miss my AmeriPeople a lot lately!
I just got accepted to the NCCC Southwest Region Campus in Denver! Looks like I'll be seeing you there :)
Congratulations! Unfortunately you will not be seeing me though:( some things arose recently and after some thought I have made the decision to not come back for a second year and to stay home and work and save up my money to move out next year! But you will have a great time I'm sure and my blog will always be open for questions I jut may not post a lot!
My paperwork made it to campus!

Money
I get a lot of questions about money situations in AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps provides you with the following things - uniform - supplies (kitchen kits, project specific tools) - training sessions and certifications (CTI) - a stipend (received every two weeks, amount received depends on what you claimed on taxes) - a food budget (each corps member gets a certain amount of money per day and it gets combined together on one card for the team to shop for the week) - 15 passenger vans and cargo vehicles (a gas card is given to your team leader each round to buy gas) - 7 corners limited health insurance - 3 personal days, 2 Life After AmeriCorps days (you get hours for LAA days this is for you to apply to jobs or colleges or build your resume etc) & unlimited sick days (but beware you must complete 1700 hours in order to graduate) The housing you will be living in during your project round is usually determined and set up by your project sponsor and an be anything from dorms, apartments, tents, a house, a cabin, a church, anything.
