I hate Canadians who go on the National Film Board's YouTube channel only to comment some shit like "This is what our tax dollars pay for, folks." Like genuinely go fuck yourself, if you think that national arts institutions are a "waste of tax dollars" if you think funding the arts doesn't "Benefit society" and "Isn't necessary" you're a soulless ghoul and I 100% mean it, if you think like this, I hope nothing goes well for you all the days of your life.
"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you π" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
they did the research in the first place because they believed you and wanted to tell people about it. they are not our enemies.
people always go "Instead of spending all that time on a study they could have just listened to us when we said these thing happen"
they did listen, that's how studies work, they asked people about their experiences and put all the data together in a nice package that can be cited

It's the way it was a simple, objective statement. White allyship 101. "White trans ppl can be oppressors too." Yes. Because Whiteness brings systemic power over their peers of color, even if you are in some way marginalized yourself. Queerness does not cancel out racism. We've talked about this. We've talked about white privilege and what it does and doesn't mean. These were conversations everyone swore they were having in 2016. π And now a blow up of fragility on par with the conservatives we're supposedly up against together. What even.
And I'm not trans so it's not like it's my right to stand here and speak for anybody who is. But from the perspective of Blackness and Bisexuality, of KNOWING that no amount of being queer has ever prevented white queer folks from being racist to me, despite the shared reality that is so long as you buy into white supremacy for your own benefit you will never break your own chains of homophobia and enforcement of gender....
I actually think all fairies are fat, in their natural habitat. The Irish used iron horseshoes to protect their milk and butter stashes from fairies bc they love cream so much. Cream and berries and honey and ale, all day every day. If you see a skinny fairy she is underfed, give her some sugar water like you would a tired bumblebee π°

the thing about this is that whatever man made this has confused 'logic' with memorizing procedures. In general, the vast majority of people confuse 'intelligence' with 'memorizing things.' Once you notice this, you never stop noticing it.
You can get 'good' at chess by by memorizing a handful of opening moves and strategies and and be 90% of people because 90% of people aren't that interested in learning the basics of chess like that. Rubik's cubes are easy to solve once you learn the algorithms that work behind them. Sudoku is famously just a number puzzle.
These things are logic in the same way that computers run on "logic," but as the great Mr. Spock once said, logic is the beginning of reason, not its endpoint.

mom called me a fag yesterday by accident
she was going to call me a bitch (playful) and i saw her gears turning like no but he's trans i need to call him the male equivalent. and then say fag and look so so surprised at the word that came out of her own mouth. it was like watching someone fail a disco elysium skill check irl
AUTHORITY - One of your sons is being annoying to the other. Make it clear that you think this is unfair.
YOU - "Stop being a b--"
REACTION SPEED [Challenging: Success] - Wait a minute.
DRAMA - Sire, the word you're about to use is historically feminine! Applying it to your transgender child is tantamount to misgendering him.
1. [Suggestion - Legendary 14] Think of a masculine equivalent to "bitch."

βIronically, AIDS has perhaps contributed more than any other factor to increasing the visibility of bisexuals among the mainstream population. Unfortunately, though, this publicity has been mostly negative. A cursory search of a basic newspaper/journal database reveals that almost all references to bisexuals and bisexuality were in relation to HIV/AIDS. Particularly stereotypical articles in the mainstream US press scapegoating bisexual men have included: βA Perilous Double Love Lifeβ (D. Gelman, Newsweek, 13 July 1987), βThe Hidden Fear: Black Women, Bisexuals, and AIDS Riskβ (L.B. Randolph, Ebony, January 1988), and βThe Risky Business of Bisexual Loveβ (S. Gerrard and J. Halpin, Cosmopolitan, October 1989).β

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
I very much prefer the new secular Jewish way of adapting traditional Jewish holidays and ritual in a secular way to the old secular Jewish way of just abandoning old traditions and keeping like two.
I think adaptation reflects a new more nuanced understanding of religious practice as something much more human than it would at first seem, something that in reality serves entirely human purposes (Community-building, etc.). I also think that it facilitates much more creativity that leads to a more meaningful cultural engagement for the non-religious Jew.
So when I see the United Jewish People's Order doing a Kol Nidre service with a secular twist, I feel very happy. I think we secular Jews should be reclaiming religious practice as cultural practice more often, it's really cool and fulfilling.
