Konrad von Megenberg, Das Buch der Natur, Augsburg, 1478
tumblr trauma blogs and trauma culture is something that needs to be ended and i see a few people speaking against it here and there but its never really talked about specifically why it’s bad
1) forging your identity out of trauma and trauma alone is never healthy, ever. you’re meant to heal from trauma, not let it mold you and shape you. running a blog dedicated to harboring instances of childhood abuse, publicly talking about things that are illegal, fetishizing images of children at play with faces scribbled out where it can continue to grow and harm you is the opposite of healing. it is festering in an open wound.
2) be careful what you say and how you say it. if something happens to you or someone around you, your words may be used in court - on your behalf or against you. even if you are not talking openly about illegal things, blogs you are interacting with are. the best place to talk about trauma is therapy. i understand wanting to get it all off your chest as soon as possible just so you’re relieved for the time being, but romanticizing your abuse through graphic poetry and art can be violently triggering for other victims of abuse. it’s safest to discuss this stuff in private with a trusted adult or counselor.
3) publicly disclosing your abuse to strangers is not a life necessity or requirement. i see 14/15/16 year olds on this website openly listing abuses and traumas they’ve endured in their about pages. predators will prey on the traumatized. that is not to say it is your fault– it definitely is not, that goes without saying.
4) no matter what community you try to mold it or rework it into, predators will adapt. they’re fluid and have no issues with being attentive and shapeshifting into friendlier monsters so you feel trusted, safe, and secure- all while being precisely the opposite.
5) not everyone who preys on trauma victims are adults. a majority of the time, yes, but other people your age can and will use it against you. be wary and don’t dismiss it simply because you’re peers.
i can’t express to the fullest extent how important it is to exercise serious caution and to veer away from this behavior and community– for your safety and ultimate benefit.
…I was not wild, not volcanic, I was rigid and self-protective; the form of my self-protectiveness took was exclusion: that which I feared, I ignored…

I made a healing & self-compassion playlist of lectures, talks, and interviews on psychology, trauma, capitalism, faith, and mental health in case anyone was interested
all i can say is that the traumatized little girl version of me who moved strangely through the world and was emotionally neglected didn’t just disappear because she got older. she’s still there inside of me and she comes out more often than i realize. i was given so many names at birth that i can give her one and call my present self another. and i take care of her, nurture her, parent her, and calm her down. she didn’t deserve what she got and she is still inside of me and she always will be. i carry her with me and i protect and love her.

Wednesday reminder
I’m no longer interested in pain. it doesn’t inspire me, it doesn’t motivate me, I don’t think it’s a beautiful thing. I’ve spent too long making suffering a part of my personality
