The Steven Universe fandom vs media literacy😭
Holy shit some people have no critical thinking skills
I keep seeing people complain about Future and then say "I never watched it though"??? So stop complaining?? I just saw someone complain about how Steven being" more powerful" than the Diamonds was bad writing. He literally never was?? In reference to Homeworld Bound, he is literally controlling White via HER new powers, and even if he hadn't been, the Diamonds were kinda past their "beat the shit out of Steven" arc so they likely wouldn't have tried to take him down anyway
I saw somebody ask why Steven stopped using Rose's shield like change isn't the whole point of the show? Also, Steven never stopped using Rose's shield?? He simply began moving towards his own powers, as is the whole character arc of anybody in the show. It is only the natural progression of the show for Steven to develop his own abilities, especially as he ages. The whole thing with gems is that they don't change, which is why Rose wanted a human child. Steven was meant to change and grow.
People saying that they never noticed Pink as Rose because Pink only got healing powers after turning into Rose is ridiculous because (forgive me if I'm wrong but) it is literally never stated that Pink got new powers by being Rose? Sure, it is likely that Rose developed new powers as she learned more about herself on earth, but she definitely didn't develop the powers of a Rose Quartz just by reforming into one.
Holy crap stop saying Pink Steven is a different person than normal Steven. The whole point is that he's just Steven. He's not two parts. He's not even half Rose(other than his gem obviously but I'm talking people who say he's still Rose/Pink, istg some of you watched su with your eyes and ears closed) He's Steven. Stop saying Rose is still alive in Steven. If the crystal gems can learm WITHIN the show, you can learm by watching it.
STOP SAYING FUTURE RUINED THE ENDING BECAUSE IT GOT "too adult" THAT IS LITERALLY THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT. IT EXPLORES STEVEN GROWING OLDER AND DEALING WITH THE REAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE WAY HE WAS RAISED. You are allowed to dislike Future, but you can't just say it was buns because it got too serious.
To add on, I see way too many people saying that steven just became an unlikable bitch in future. Like did you not understand that the whole point was he was dealing with his own traumas and problems revolving Rose, Pink, the Diamonds in general, and literally the quote EVER, "How do I live life if it always feels like I'm about to die?" and the whole "your body never got a chance to process life ending shit so now it thinks stepping on a lego is gonna make you fucking explode"(paraphrasing) and like the whole idea is that everyone else had Steven when they needed help, but Steven is the one person who has never had Steven, and quite frankly, that's the last person he needs right now(ala White's powers allowing Steven to talk to the "Diamond" part of himself, the part he's struggling with the most) I wouldn't be a very happy camper if I was Steven and you probably wouldn't either
I can't STAND when people act like Pearl is horribly written, an awful character, and is just the absolute worst creature to walk the fucking planet. She is one of the most well written characters in the entire series, and unless you fully just skipped A Single Pale Rose, you should be able to see why Pearl was the way she was. Branching off of this, people saying Pearl never actually cared about Steven? Did you happen to miss all the parts where she was the most supportive person in the room(or more accurately audience most of the time, you know the scenes I'm talking about) Sure, she wasn't the best parent and handled Future Steven... not well, to say the least, she truly cared for him.
The entire debate on whether Pink/Rose was a good or bad person. Can nobody accept that she was morally gray and move on with their lives?? Like it literally displays in the show that she did both inherently good and bad things.(I think this boils down to a broader issue of humanity as a whole having a need for things to be black and white but that might be too meta for this post)
Stop boiling Lapis down to the perfect victim. She admitted that she abused Jasper right back. Lapis is not your little uwu baby girl slay queen I promise you. (Obligatory plug to my Lapis and the concept of fusion post i made recently I would add the point here but it feels redundant)
Jasper would not have been redeemed, and DEFINITELY would have never joined the crystal gems. Jasper's one and only goal is to irradicate the crystal gems, and being the sole gem left to still uphold those values/point of views is a big part of SUF.(to note, character development is different from redemption)
Anyways that is all folks, please understand that I do not mean the whole SU fandom. I love this fandom with all my heart. I am referring to very specific people within it who lack even a shred a media literacy.
