If the lads boys were allowed to interact, how do you think it would go? Like what would their dynamics be, etc?

Ooooh, interesting and warnings, um my opinions might be a little controversial in this fandom~ So, as always, take my opinion with a pinch of salt, it's just that and I'm just some guy!

I say they might be controversial because I don't ship any of the guys and I don't think they'd be like besties who hang out willingly, like I think they are more the reverse of the phenomenon we see a lot in otome where MC is the odd duck out in an already established friend group- meanwhile in lads, I think MC would primarily be the only reason the guys hang. I also have very strong opinions on Caleb, sooo~

Xavier and Rafayel-

I do like the idea people have gotten from the cat chibis and the very few brief/official cosplayer interactions that Raf would sometimes tease or "pick on" Xavier- like drawing on his face in his sleep. I think Raf and Xav could kind of vibe on both being weird (affectionate), they both have moments where they kind of talk in prose. Like, Raf is out here buying weird octopus hats that keep you awake on the subway, Xav's would probably wear one and still fall asleep. That said, I also think a neat component would be as me and my friends like to joke- Raf plays a brat on TV, but Xavier is the actual brat of LADS. Raf may pout and huff to get MC's attention, Xavier is out here punching plushies and exploding lights because MC didn't look at him. Like, I think even Raf would be like "Okay, that's a little dramatic" and MC would look at him like "Fuckin' really???? Fish boy???" Also, I think they'd bond a bit over being the least willingly athletic boys. Like don't get me wrong, they're in shape, they're capable. But Raf whines at every workout or hike unless he can justify it for artistic muses, if it's not sword or sex- Xav does not care to move his body. Like in a highschool AU, these are the two walking the lap during gym, if Xavier even showed up. Overall, I think Raf would find Xav occasionally fun to tease, but a bit boring when he isn't being weird or dramatic- like c'mon dude, you're still sleeping,???? Xavier, I think would of course dislike how playful Raf is with MC, he is a jealous boy after all, outside of that I think Raf to him can be entertaining, until he becomes too much and then Xav is just like "okay, thats enough, leave." They can handle each other in short dosages, but longtime exposure leaves them both irritated and ready to throw a tantrum.

Xavier and Zayne-

Zayne medically isn't sure what the fuck is wrong with Xavier, but he'd like it to be happening as far away from him as possible. He prescribes one "Get this man out of my office, MC." Zayne I broadly think is the most capable of getting along with most of the other guys, because while he is the "cold" type, he is generally very even tempered and doesn't get too easily swept away by nonsense, even if sometimes he wishes he would. That said, while he can get along with Xavier, I think he finds him very weird and reckless. Like, Xavier is out here pulling out a sword to chop up apples in MC's hospital room, Zayne is not about that shit. Zayne, I imagine often has a habit of finding himself reluctantly having to be the mom/dad friend of "No, don't do that, you absolute idiot." And I think Xavier would bring that out somewhat, as well again Zayne finding him just... kind of strange. He's off kilter, he says shit Zayne doesn't understand. If Zayne is in a good enough mood he can find it slightly amusing, but he has his limits. Xavier, I think would be kind of jealous, not only of the MC/Zayne dynamic (even on a platonic level) but also because Zayne is steady and dependable in a way Xavier struggles with. That mixed with, I don't think Xavier likes being told what to do, he likes being able to do his own thing at his own pace and I think Zayne's almost parental tendencies would rub him the wrong way. Definitely can be civil, but Zayne is wondering why MC took in the weird kid who ate paste and Xavier is wondering if Zayne knows he's not his dad.

Xavier and Sylus-

So, this one depends heavily. Sylus and Caleb are the two who I think have the "it depends" sort of dynamic with each guy. For Sylus, it's on- does this guy know him as Sylus or Skye? Both in name and existence. Assuming, Xavier has seen images of Sylus and immediately clocks, "Oh shit, MC is getting chummy with the leader of Onychinus." And of course, Sylus knows Xavier's Lumiere bit from the bounty on his head. Also, the whole Philos thing- which I think Sylus knows of Xavier's family at least and Xavier might know of dragons in Philosian history but not specifically of Sylus/him being one. That said, I think MC would've of course introduced Sylus as Skye, Xavier would honestly, likely assume Sylus is lying to MC and presenting a false persona to trick and get close to her for vague evil Onychinus reasons. I think he'd get very protective, I think he'd be caught in not wanting to "hurt" MC by telling her the truth about her new friend, but also very much not want Sylus to end up hurting her. So, I think he'd very much be trying to nudge her away from him and interrupt their interactions/keep them away from each other. Sylus would at first find this kind of entertaining, just due to the ragebaiter that he is. He'd be teasing and taunting the hell out of Xavier for trying to be her knight and shining armor, her prince charming. But at the same time, the one way to actually irritate Sylus is... interrupting his time with MC. So, that would eventually bubble into genuine frustration. Ultimately, things would have to come to a head where MC is like "Yeah, i know he's Sylus, I was just kind of hoping you didn't." And her having a talk with Xavier of like that she trusts Sylus and even if Xavier doesn't, he needs to trust MC. And he will then, albeit reluctantly and with gritted teeth, accept that for whatever reason MC wants to be around Sylus. They're not exactly civil, but for MC's sake they won't kill each other.

Xavier and Caleb-

Another, "depends" with Caleb it depends heavily on- has MC told them about what happened in Caleb's main story book. Because, just real talk, none of the other guys would be chill with someone drugging MC and holding her captive, also most would find the incest concerning. I'm a Caleb and MC are adopted siblings truther. And like, if MC came back from Skyhaven going "Yeah, my brother is alive, he drugged me, held me captive, had a mental breakdown, and implied he wants us to get Alabama married," Xavier isn't going to like this man. That said, if MC also has told him, that regardless of this Caleb is going to be in her life. I think Xavier would tolerate for her sake, similar to Sylus, but it's even more tense because Xavier is actually aware of ways in which Caleb hurt her. Caleb I think regardless, would somewhat put on his "I'm just a friendly, good big brother" persona because he knows MC wants him to get along with her friends, but there is always an underlying tension of him trying to bump them out of her life or minimize their time with her. Caleb also has the conflict of, Xavier being MC's work partner- which is he doesn't like. On one hand, he's glad MC is having her back watched by someone, but on the other hand he blatantly just does not like her depending on others, so deffo a lot of underlying tension. Which if Xavier knows about what happened in Skyhaven, he's much more sensitive to and clocks. if he doesn't, then he's much more likely to write off Caleb's behavior as a genuinely protective big brother and MC's going along with it as, she's just happy her big brother is alive. I think he'd still get irked at Caleb interrupting his time with MC, but would be much less actively mad or hostile, because if he believes this genuinely a regular family relationship- well he wants MC"s brother to like him at least a little.

Rafayel and Zayne-

Oh god, if Raf occasionally finds Xavier boring- good fucking lord, "yeah, of course MC I'll hang out with your friend who's got a stick so far up his ass he's gagging on it, just let me throw myself off a building first!" Like, Xavier's bedrotting and introversion depending on the day for Raf is either a mood or a frustration. Zayne's dry, down to earth, not really prosey, can appreciate beauty and art but definitely just doesn't connect in the same way. Raf would find Zayne very stifling, he would also find Zayne's tendency to "parent" people very frustrating, like he's got himself a second Thomas. If Zayne says the word deadline, Raf will start having "war" flashbacks. That said, I think he also gets why Zayne is so important to MC, like he is dependable, he is steady, he is kind. Raf has some respect for that, even if he's whining about how much of a stick in the mud the guy is. Zayne, I think sees Raf as MC's artsy weird (though not as weird as Xav) friend/boyfriend, he's ephemeral and vague and prosey, when MC's around- he's all of that but louder and more dramatic. Another person in MC's social circle that he ends up occasionally nagging, but honestly- I think he's a bit envious of Raf's carefree nature, because while Xavier's veers into occasional recklessness- Raf has that, "Hey, it's 3am, lets go on to the beach, MC" type of adventurousness and willing to be seemingly uninhibited, that Zayne feels he can't do so much of the time. Of course, I don't think Zayne would ever fully know just much of himself Raf is always hiding, but on the surface level, Zayne internally is like "Man, I do wish I was the kind of guy who could just be a little whimsical and without restraint" I think too, if Raf can unlock dry humor kind of bitchy Zayne, Raf will be more on board with him. Like, if MC can con Zayne into watching some bad reality tv with her and Raf, and Zayne starts giving his brand of brutal critique and snipes- that Zayne, Raf can fuck with.

Rafayel and Sylus-

"Aren't you a wanted criminal in the N109 zone?" "Aren't you?" Sylus, I think more than any of the other boys, is the closest to knowing what's actually going with Raf. He's very aware of everything going down in the N109 Zone and the underground criminal world, he can't know everything- but he damn well knows Raf is more than just a strange artist. And given Raf actually does have dealings in the N109 Zone, you bet your ass he is not buying this is Skye, the fruit vendor. I think he'd confront MC on it sooner than Xav, a "Hey, so why are we pretending his name is Skye???? Also why does he talk like a discord mod????" And he would similarly, reluctantly kind of trust and be like, "Okay, if you know what you're doing." If it's at a point in Raf/MC's relationship where Raf hasn't really let MC into some of the shadier things he does, I think there'd be a moment with Sylus like "Hey, you stay out of my business, I stay out of yours" but if this is deeper in and Raf has already opened up a bit more about that part of his life, he's less concerned because "Ha, jokes on you- she likes that I'm a serial killer and an eco-terrorist." Which, ironically, I don't think even think that'd conversation would need to happen if Raf wasn't worried about it. Because Sylus, wouldn't even see those as things that need to be hidden and if he mentioned it at all, it was probably in genuine interest. Sylus, I think would find some of Raf's more overt dramatics annoying when Raf is showing that side of himself, but I think Sylus more than any other non-Raf boy, is shown to have a deep appreciation of art and music, so i think they could definitely bond on that as well. Like, Sylus has probably been to one of Talia's performances and would very earnestly compliment Raf's work as well. I think Raf would be wary of just how easily and earnestly Sylus brough MC into the most dangerous parts of his life, especially given how long Raf tried to hide those parts of himself from MC, but I do think they could vibe.

Rafayel and Caleb-

If Raf knows about what happened in Skyhaven, Caleb is about to be gifted a very special bottle of wine. He wouldn't actually, because of MC and her connection, but very notably, Raf won't really put on his more playful joking artist persona around Caleb. Much more quick, to the point, cold and distanced. In a way, that seems almost cruel compared to Caleb trying to maintain his golden boy big brother facade. But, Raf just can't find it in himself to even feign extroversion or his more jovial side when he knows what this man has done to MC, and how deeply conflicted that relationship is. Caleb in that context, I think would try to kind of use that to put some distance between Raf and MC if he can. Caleb, i also think, despite this- feels less threatened by Raf than he does the others. Because, on a surface level, Raf is the one showing up for MC the least. MC is the one protecting him supposedly, so Caleb doesn't feel as threatened by who he writes off as a flaky artist type, not dependable, can't keep her safe. Fine, you sometimes have fun hanging fun with him, MC, though you should be having fun with me instead but it's not like he does more than that. That, said, if Caleb finds out about Raf's shady dealings- you bet your ass, he's also using that to undermine his relationship with MC, trying to get her away from him. Now, if Raf doesn't know about Skyhaven, he's got the persona up. He's artsy, he's charming, he's playful- "don't worry big bro, I'm such a fun good guy to be in MC's life- wow, that handshake is really brutal... wow, you really keep trying to get me to leave??? hey, mc why do I hear banjos every time your brother talks to you????"

Zayne and Sylus-

Zayne is the least likely to know about Sylus, as Sylus, but he's also perceptive enough to be like... a fruit vendor, huh? Like his mind isn't going to immediately jump to, he's secretly a mafia boss, but he might suspect that the fruit vendor business is a money laundering scheme. Ignoring the elephant in the room that is Sylus' crime record, off the cuff, I think Sylus and Zayne surface level can vibe. The back and forth of dry humor and bouncing off each other, Sylus while having a love of art- is still very direct and grounded in his communication, so Zayne wouldn't find him quite as bizarre as he would Xavier and Raf. He might genuinely feel like he's found the one person more direct than him, since Sylus is direct and uninhibited. Zayne speaks on most things blunt and directly, but never about his own wants or desires or feelings because of his need for restraint. Sylus is direct about... just about everything. which I do think similarly to with Raf, Zayne would find himself a bit envious of. That said, he doesn't like the motorcycles and explosions MC keeps mentioning- whatever that is, stop that, please. Sylus, I think, ironically would be a bit envious of Zayne and MC's relationship- due to their history, while Zayne and MC had a bit of a frosty stage, they slipped back into being friends and leaning on each other very easily. Zayne barely had to try for a level of connection and closeness with MC that Sylus had to beg and bleed for. That said, I think he very much feels like he offers something more for MC, in terms of lessening restraints, where Zayne to him at times is very reminiscent of Philosian culture- repression, restraint, don't indulge, don't enjoy, how fuckin dull. Also, I think if Zayne finds out about Sylus' actual crimes- he'd be disgusted, he'd very much want MC to move away from him. Violence weighs so heavily in Zayne's mind, every drop of blood he's had to shed has made him sick, has become a nightmare, has made him hate himself and imprison himself in this need for restraint- but Sylus treats it as a simple fact of life, neither wrong or right, it simply is. And I don't think Zayne can reckon fully with that.

Zayne and Caleb-

Oh, I'm gonna get shot for this one. These boys fucking hate each other. Fucking HATE each other. If Zayne has one person he'd revoke his feelings about violence on beyond vague Ever shit, it'd be Caleb. I'm sorry, no amount of "three musketeers, caleb, mc, and zayne" propaganda can convince me these two men have ever liked each other. I think Zayne tried as kids, I think he did. And I think for a bit of time, given Caleb's golden boy persona- he thought maybe they were all three friends, then the cracks showed. Because Caleb, fresh off of refinding MC in the shelter following the Chronorift disaster and them being adopted by one of the people who tortured them- seeing MC connect with another boy around their age, seeing her depend on someone else. He hated that shit, he put on the persona, he played nice- but he was always trying to get those two further apart and Zayne clocked it, Zayne questioned why siblings were getting couples discounts on azure's echos day, Zayne wondered why Caleb insisted on getting chocolates from MC for azure's echos day, but turned down any from any other girls in class. Also, I genuinely believe in my heart of hearts, when Zayne accidentally hurt MC with his evol, given who Caleb is and has been- Caleb beat the shit out of Zayne for that. And Caleb knows Zayne is the one who sees through him the most and he hates that, get that out of here. Post Skyhaven, if MC told Zayne the full deal, he's even more hateful of him, but again- he knows MC"s feelings are complicated, but he's seething. If he doesn't know, still hates him. Caleb notably more pointed around Zayne even when the persona is on, sometimes even letting it fully fall if Zayne pushes too much.

Sylus and Caleb-

Again, if Sylus knows about Skyhaven events- he wants Caleb turned into a smear on the concrete, but will respect MC's wishes, reluctantly. Even if he doesn't know, he's also perceptive enough to pick up on the fact that big brother doesn't really want anyone else around MC and seems particularly... touchy with her. I feel like Sylus would try to pick apart Caleb's persona, he is again- a ragebaiter at heart and if he isn't fully aware of how fucked up Caleb has been, I can see him trying to get a rise out of him. Though if he does know, I think he's less of that and more just cold and clearly waiting for Caleb to leave the room, because ragebaiter Sylus is Sylus having fun, you drug and kidnap MC, he doesn't want to have fun with you. If on a first meet and he doesn't know about Sylus- its full persona, usual fare, definitely tries to point out how he doesn't... look like a fruit vendor. But you bet your ass, he's using Farspace Fleet info to dig up everything on him. Immediately uses Sylus' Sylusness to try to pull "I'm just protecting you" on MC and asking her to stay the fuck away from Sylus, MC would've have to work a lot harder to convince Caleb to be okay with it. Not saying he never would, but it's hard, and the puppy golden persona will be gone- Sylus for sure brings out Colonel Caleb, clearly just wants this man fucking gone.

*Valko-

Wanted to put a little note for doggie whom I do hope will come home. We don't know much of him yet. But given the pieces we see, I think most of the boys could vibe on some level with his more playful side, Zayne might find him to be a bit much, but also appreciate nerd talk, and Sylus would rage bait him with dog jokes. Raf would probably find him fun, but if the leaks are correct and Valko had Ever connections that he was lying about, ooooh boy.
