Alright fam, here it is! The animated version of my debut novel “The Vampire Painter”!

(I’ll be blunt — I spent a year on both this and the book. Please spread this like butter)

SUMMARY

The Countess Luchia de Sarracenia comes from a long line of powerful vampires. She is accustomed to getting her way. Her greatest wish, however, has always eluded her - the ability to see her own face.

She hires artist after artist to paint her portrait. But when they fail to capture her perceived ethreal beauty, the consequences are dire.

Enter Venus Faucher. Coming from humble beginnings, she has spent her life trying to make a name for herself as a woman painter in a world which underestimates her.

She believes that she may have found her security with the countess as a patron. However, the more time she spend with Sarracenia, the more Venus realizes the cost which comes from pleasing a vampire.

I call this one The Fisherman’s Wife and the Selkie

I love selkies, they’re so tragic by nature. I wanted to make sure I included more creatures than just mermaids and fairies, so here we are

Yeah, I’m stupid proud of this. I love how it came out!

This one is more platonic admittedly, but it’s still the story of two women who find solace in each other’s company and. There’s a mermaid. So it’s being included in the sapphic fairytale collection!

I think my reasoning for keeping it will be clear when we get to the episode. I wrote the rough draft in like, ten minutes, I want to tell this story that badly

Newest sapphic couple — the mermaid and the siren! I know that in a lot of stories, these two are treated as the same thing, and we often use “siren” to describe a more “evil” mermaid, but I love the concept of these two being different species.

Like sharks and dolphins! I tend to stick to this mindset when I draw them — my sirens are more aquatic creatures whereas my mermaids are mammals.

I love the level of lore this concept invites. And so, in my typical fashion…I had to ship them!

People of the jury — mermen! Because I draw those too!

These were always planned as a continuation off of my mermaid collection from last year. I tried to get creative with how I would differentiate my men from my women and still represent their cultures. With my mermaids, I did this mostly through jewelry

Now I’m not saying men can’t wear jewelry, I know that’s a thing, but I wanted to make these designs shine in their own light. I have been trying to rebuild my relationship with masculinity and felt that if I just designed my mermen with the same aesthetic as my mermaids, I would just be staying in my comfort zone and it felt disingenuous
