Are you paying my rent?

I don’t think so. I enjoyed writing for publications, but I think the intention of going to Journalism school was for the skill. I think it’s going to help me a ton with my graduate work, but I am not interested in going back into a news room for the time being.

I applied to 4 doctorates and 1 Masters. I got into 2 doctorates and the Masters. I knew I wanted something in the Humanities that had a faculty that could cater to the needs of the project. Ultimately it becomes about faculty. I applied to 3 American Studies programs, 1 Ethnic Studies and the Chicanx Studies that was the Masters. I also did a summer research program that allowed me to think and work on the project more, so I had the advantage of becoming more familiar with my project on a scholarly level. I also did the B.A. to Doctorate jump, which is not something everyone is super down with if they’re still trying to develop their ideas around the work. I had some formal training to prepare me, so I would not take it as if I just took the leap.

The majority of my funding is through fellowships. Usually PhD programs will pay for you to go (and pay you) because you’re technically an employee of the university. That’s usually not the case for Masters degrees, but on occasion I hear of people that get those degrees funded as well. I guess it depends on the program, but one thing for sure is that if you’re trying to get a PhD, you should never be paying, they should be paying you. 

I became ugly sorry

My sister bought me this before I started my graduate applications. I didn't even think I would finish a couple of years back and now I'm applying full on PhD. Just submitted to Yale and I have a couple more to go. If I get in, cool, if I don't, the work is going to continue anyway. Thanks for all the help and rooting!
