Lake Topaz in Nevada, frozen and untouched. Memories echo sensations. The smell of green leather, the heat of the sun baking ripe passion fruits dangling, the ever cool white backyard floor, always so clean followed by the panting dog. Throb of the eardrum after being deafened by the first shout, skin burning with rage. Skin burning with infatuation, head in the freezer after the first date, the best fever. A stomachache from laughing the lungs out of nothing that mattered, orange alleyway dimly lit, only one cigarette for two watching the moon. There was an uneasiness that sat in me for days before I left home and moved to America four years ago. I wondered if that was how a tree felt when it was being uprooted and transplanted, except I’d be a tree that had grown legs and decided to unearth itself. After being back in Sg for three months, I’ve scheduled a flight back to my second home in LA. The unease has returned and it’s even more gripping and frightening than before. I’ve always been wicked at countering fear with constant motion, rationalising faster than I can feel, carrying out what needs to be done without fully processing emotions. But this time I’m sitting with the unease, hugging it tight and making peace with the uncertainty of choosing to return to the life and career I’ve built. That amidst the chaos, love and angels have always appeared. It’s wild revisiting memories before the big leap four years ago, it was one of the happiest points in my life, both transitory and infinite. - Spending humid afternoons with my angels, longboarding through the city, being in love, weekend staycays, design in Airbnb, working in Tokyo, Mals packing my life into two suitcases with me, hotpot with papa and mama, favourite place to be alone.
