also yeah I commented on this on discord once and forgot to mention in posts, but it's baffling that tokyo being in the game is seen as out of nowhere when the game has put so much effort into the capital looking like a destroyed metropolis to make the flying levels feel like you're flying over a city even when you tell you aren't. it was drawing a parallel from the start!!!!!!!!

and the missions over water, shooting down ships? it's so. it's so ace combat of course in a doylist sense because the game was conceived in part using ace combat as (heavy) inspiration, but the image of the dragon and caim is also meant to remind you of the image of the invader, the fighter, the terrorist... none of these things are funny accidents that can only be understood in isolation... "but evangelion reference..." shut up.... I'm eo slept. wleept.
