a touch of death.

       his  heart  feels  like  it  stops  for  a  moment,  as  if  time  stood  still  as  he  processed  her  answer.  he  knows  what  she’s  referring  too  and  while  he  hoped  she  would  have  said  yes,  hearing  the  words  make  it  all  the  more  real.  she’d  marry  him!  holy  fucking  shit!  (  he’s  not  a  huge  fan  of  cursing,  but  it  seems  like  an  accurate  time  to  use  that  sort  of  language  ).  it’s  something  that  rattles  his  core  —  he’s  excited  yet  nervous.  

       he  never  thought  he’d  be  able  to  touch  someone,  never  be  able  to  fall  in  love  with  someone,  but  here  he  is!  he’s  engaged  to  someone  who  takes  his  breath  away  every  time  she’s  around,  someone  who’s  made  him  feel  real  love  for  the  first  time  in  a  long  time.  is  soulmate  to  strong  of  a  word?  is  it  too  early  to  claim  her  as  the  love  of  his  life?  maybe,  but  he’s  confident  that  she’s  both.  after  all,  she  rescued  him  and  he  knew  damn  well  she  would.  he’s  willing  to  bet  they  have  that  epic  romance,  the  kind  people  only  think  exists  on  tv.  

       finally,  he  gathers  himself  enough  to  speak,  ❝  really?  ❞  it  feels  kind  of  unbelievable.  like  this  might  be  a  dream,  but  it’s  not  one  he  wants  to  wake  up  from.  he  wants  to  live  in  this  moment  forever,  with  her.  he  pulls  her  into  a  hug,  the  kind  where  he  picks  her  up  and  spins  her  just  to  truly  show  how  excited  he  is  about  this.  ❝  i  can’t  wait  to  marry  you.  i  can’t  wait  to  spend  the  rest  of  our  lives  together,  however  long  that  may  be.  ❞  he  plants  a  kiss  on  her,  a  quick  one  but  he  hopes the  passion  and  enthusiasm  is  clear  in  it.  he’s  not  immortal,  but  for  the  first  time  since  he  was  a  child  he  feels  like  living  a  long  life  might  not  be  so  bad  after  all.  it’s  something  he  can  look  forward  to.  

             ‘   ah–   ’   his lips form a soft smile as he continued to speak. the question sounds silly to him but then he remembers he is a superhero named spiderman – of course it’s silly.   ‘   not exactly.   ’   resisting a chuckle before he goes on;   ‘   me? i can’t control spiders, and i’m not made of spiders. i-i was bitten by one though. now scott? he can control ants – he’s antman, man!   ’

while  ash  pretty  much  remembers  every  experiment  that  happened  to  him  there  are  three  big  ones  that  left  a  lasting  effect  on  him.  two  of  them  just  scared  the  living  hell  out  of  him  &  he  still  carries  that  guilt  around  and  the  third  was  just  a  big  change  in  his  life  he’s  had  to  get  used  to.  

the  first  one  was  not  long  after  he  first  arrived  at  the  facility  which  just  prolonged  the  effects  of  his  powers.  it  was  exciting  at  first,  he  got  to  touch  someone  and  not  witness  them  immediately  hit  the  ground,  but  after  an  hour  or  so  it  finally  hit  &  their  death  wasn’t  nearly  as  quick  as  his  powers  usually  made  it.  it  was  violent  and  slow  and  hurt  to  even  watch,  especially  when  you  count  in  that  he  was  only  six  watching  it.

the  second  one  was  due  to  having  too  stress  on  his  powers.  fifteen  was  the  height  of  experiments  and,  obviously,  had  a  poor  effect  on  his  mental  &  physical  health.  so  after  too  much  strain  and  a  whole  lot  of  pain,  while  ash  can’t  remember  the  full  extent  of  what  happened,  but  he  does  remember  a  wave  of  power  coming  from  him  and  the  next  thing  he  knew  anybody  who  was  in  the  room  had  died.  he’s  never  had  it  happen  since,  most  of  his  powers  are  only  touch  based,  but  he’s  also  never  been  in  that  much  pain  since.  

“ hmm ? ” a tilt of her head , golden eyes stare up at ash , a long moment of silence , studying him. there’s still worry in the back of her mind , worry in the way her fingers twitch around his own palm , a small exhale. wondrous miracles , beautiful impossibilities that have become a reality. “ i  LOVE  you. ” a soft confession , moving to bump her nose against his own , keep any closeness she can. “ i just - just - just want you to , uh - stay safe. stay with me. ” this closeness is nice. being able to touch is nice. death and life. equaling each other out. she thinks they were meant to be. “ i missed you. i look-looked for you … everywhere. it – i’m sorry i didn’t - i didn’t find - find you sooner. ”

         “ if i were still alive, i’d give you my clothes. ” yeah, shane, that’s kinda creepy to say. he shrugs, FORCING a smile to his lips. “ no one’s stayed here for a LONG TIME … or like, two years. you can stay here, if you want. i doubt anyone would say anything. ” leave it to shane to be HOSPITABLE —- but hey, he’s dead, he LITERALLY has nothing to lose.
