The confrontation between him and Ken is brought up a LOT and I think about it often for what it represents. This is a pretty dark moment in the context of his character and they don’t shy away from that but even still. His role here is not out of malice. The scene to me is just to demonstrate the weight of the antagonistic forces at play for Ken who at this point still treats it like a twisted game and Takeru is the perfect kind of mouthpiece for that. Because like. Okay I’m gonna try to make this cohesive and it’s maybe gonna hit its mark like 70%. Takeru representing hope means that he has to walk a FINE line between the light and darkness in the digital world. Like he gets VERY familiar with both sides but contrasting with Hikari he doesn’t really walk that line personally?? He just kind of. Sees every angle and takes in the weight of it all in a kind of observant sense???

This has been pointed out now and then but a very notable struggle Takeru has that carried on through adventure is like. Doing as much as he can to avoid feeling helpless to the things that happen around him. I think that feeling that he dreads so much is precisely why it was so perfect that he was the one who showed Ken he had no idea what he was dealing with and then they add to the parallels even MORE with Wormmon later but that’s another convo. I think it’s so important that even being fully aware of all of this weight and making it very clear that he IS vulnerable to it he still like. Chooses hope. And goodness. People tease the idea of him tapping into his ‘dark side’ and think it’s a really cool badass idea but I think if you’re gonna do that it’s also important to show that as is he is deliberately choosing not to let it overpower him.
