You're Like Perfection Some Kinda Holiday

My name is Kareemah Pierce, but you can call me Reemie, and I am the founder of Alternative Kid Magazine. I love music, writing, and I also love making Youtube videos. I started this magazine(as of right now it’s a blog) because I wanted a place to showcase alternative people from all walks of life. I wanted a place where I could be myself and show others that it is okay to be different. You don’t have to be ashamed of who you are. 

When I was in High School I hung out with a lot of alternative kids. I listened to a lot of great music, read a lot of comic books, and watched a lot of anime. I never felt that I could be completely myself though, because of my race. I had a lot of people come up to me, or talk about me behind my back, saying I didn’t “act black” or that i was “a white girl trapped in a black girl’s body” These things made me feel like there was something wrong with who i was as a person. It made me depressed and I started to change who I was. 

Now that I am 21 years old I am finally starting to realize that it is alright to be yourself, and I love being alternative. I am never going to let someone tell me that the way I choose to live my life is wrong because of the color of my skin. I will never let another person define me. I am going to live out my dreams and this is one of them. Even though I am just starting out I am really excited for the future of Alternative Kid Magazine!
