there's no entitlement from him. he doesn't even mention it. there's no monologue to Bill about "oh woe is me the cute lil barista will never notice me though I Yearn So Badly" nope! the hivemind and Ted mock him for it and Emma can tell, but Paul himself never mentions it outside of the latte hottay joke

he doesn't try to flirt with her in her place of work! she initiates the conversation, he's happy to just talk to her and get to know her! even before they start talking our man is perfectly content to just quietly give her workplace his business and be a nice customer while he Looks Respectfully

I just really appreciate that. I appreciate that within the story Emma is more than The Love Interest. she has her own motivation and backstory outside of that and it's clear in every aspect. that's important and that plus how their relationship develops as a friendship first instantly puts it a step above like. every other romance subplot I've seen

Paul wouldn't just stop talking to Emma had the crush not turned out to be mutual. sure he wants there to be something more but he clearly likes her first and foremost, regardless of the nature of their relationship. they make great friends and that's a well written couple, my dude
