"You know," Eoin says, head tipped back against Paddy's shoulder. "We've never had a New Year's kiss."
They got together in the spring and Paddy was gone by the time the next New Year rolled around. Crazy, really, to think how short a time they were actually together and how it was still long enough to reshape Eoin's whole being.
"Are you expecting that to change tonight?" Paddy asks.
Eoin shrugs and uses the movement to press back into him. "Well. I've got to kiss someone."
"And I hope it keeps fine for you." He would sound completely casual, except his hand is splayed over Eoin's middle, heavy and possessive.
"What about you?" Eoin asks. "Anyone here catch your eye?"
Paddy's hand drifts down, his fingers sliding through Eoin's belt loops. "Hm. There's a wee Southern boy from Belfast. Perhaps he'll give me the time of day."
"I'll tell Ambrose you're interested," Eoin offers.

huge part of online fandom etiquette is to not spread other fandom people's bullshit online. seeing a take of some rando that is upsetting you and will definitely upset your fandom friends too? bury it, don't bring it up publicly, don't make others see it. people online are being mean and stupid? say internal fuck you to them, block, post something purely nice about the same thing, nip it in the bud. there are fandom wars happening? ignore them, don't notify anyone on the dash of it no matter how much you want to complain, let them die out instead of fanning the flames to make them spread further on another person. if that's not possible, rant and whine a bit in dms of one cool friend who is easy going and will make fun of that bullshit with you for a few minutes and help you feel lighter. there will always be miserable people online. sometimes a lot of them will be miserable at once and it will be very loud and visible and hard to ignore. learn to and don't let it snowball effect itself by transmitting the bad vibes and the existence of bad opinions to a next person, who might at this moment be clueless about it and be in the middle of having the time of their life with whatever it is you both chose to love so much, and will probably get that beautiful special moment ruined if you drag the dirt around in front of them. have fun with fandom. keep it cleaner from dirt. let your friends have fun with it carefreely and joyfully. the only way to fight this kind of hate is by loving louder

“No, no don’t do this to me,” Eddie mutters as the radio crackles and fades in and out. He pulls out the aerial, angles it just so, and Robin’s voice resolves out of the static.

Eddie scrabbles for the note pad and scribbles as fast as he can, capturing Robin’s code. “Tuesday… …8…damn it Sinclair why is this so complicated?”
Lucas and Erica had been beaming with pride when they presented Eddie with the idea.
“It’s simple, really.” Erica said “Even if they listen in, they’ll never crack it.”
“Simple for you,” Eddie fumes, “Not all of us have have a cryptic crossword champion for a mother.”
Mississippi Boy spins to an end and Robin’s voice fades in.
“15 minutes of rock with no interruptions,” She says. “But don’t miss me too much, I’ll be back before you know it.”
The applause FX cuts in, and Eddie can’t help but smile, imaging Steve cuing it. He really is far gone if a crackly crowd noise has him pining.
The pattern of knocks is the correct one for this week, so Eddie slides the rug aside and unlocks the trap door.
“Speak, friend, and enter,” he says as Steve’s head pops through.
“Oh, just friend, is it?” Steve says, placing the bag of groceries on the floor and pulling himself up with a flex of muscle that makes Eddie’s mouth water.
Eddie just kisses him, urgent, as soon as the trap door’s closed.
“No need to rush,” Steve says like he isn’t being just as urgent. “Didn’t you get the message? We have all night.”
“It’s been weeks,” Eddie says. “And you’re lucky I even got the time right, Robin’s riddles are getting too complex.”
“What you want her to say, ‘hey wanted murderer that’s supposed to be dead, your boyfriend’s coming to your secret hideout to fuck your brains out at 8pm on a Tuesday?’ ”
“Would be simpler,” Eddie says, letting himself be walked back to the bed. God Steve smells good. “You could add a little sound effect.”
“Hmmm,” Steve says, hand on the front of Eddie’s sweatpants. “How about I make you make the sounds this time, instead?”

MRI machines and cooling units and AC and IT systems in hospitals are breaking due to the heat. Lab equipment is failing. Some cancer treatments cannot be done due to machine failures. A&E overcrowding is worse due to heat related health issues and sheer amount of people is making the heat in hospitals worse (and the AC! Is breaking!) Patients with appointments are being advised to bring in "a lot" of water with them to be able to safely attend. Fans cannot be used in hospitals. Norwich has no functuoning MRI scanners right now. And the staff have to keep working through all of this, they are getting ill and sleep deprived which is compounding issues further. This is not normal 👍
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
