About hiking compass
I had written another post regarding the hiking compasses and the different types. Today, I will be providing another two types of hiking compass.
Types of hiking compass
Simple baseplate compass
The simple baseplate compass has clear acrylic baseplates to enhance map viewing and reading through the compass. The compasses are all-purposes compasses for beginners and serve backpacking and hiking needs. Â
Orienteering compasses
The orienteering compasses are features with a high level of navigation. The orienteering compasses are meant to help you navigate using maps or a GPS. These compasses feature declination scales, rulers, clinometers and sighting mirrors. They are fully featured for regular and skilled navigators with need for high level navigation tools.
There are other things you need to consider when purchasing a compass. Some of the things to consider include:
•       Sighting mirror for precise navigation
•       Declination adjustment to account for the difference between the North Pole and magnetic pole
•       Clinometer to measure angles for avalanche risk
•       A global needle used by world travelers and much more.
So a compass is a little but essential device that you need to have when hiking or backpacking. The hiking compasses affect your navigation accuracy and help you avoid risky situations.
Why carrying a trekking pole is important
Ever wondered why you are advised on carrying a trekking pole whenever you are going hiking? Well, for some reasons, it comes in handy. However, you have to make sure that you have the best trekking poles.
Here are some of the benefits of carrying a trekking pole:
·  When going downhill, the trekking pole will reduce the impact on your feet, knees, ankle and legs. The compressive force exerted on your knees while going downhill can be reduced by a pole by up to 25%. This reduces your chances of getting hurt and pain on your knees after hiking.
·        Going for a hike is more than just walking, if you encounter a thick forest, the pole can be used to deflect nuisances on your way. There are obstacles like thorny bushes, spider webs and blackberries that can’t be pushed away with your bare hands and this is the time a trekking pole is most useful. This keeps you comfortable throughout the hike.
·        If you try and gauge yourself as compared to the person without a pole, you will note that the pole helps a person maintain a constant walking pace. This, in turn, increases speed especially on the flat and non-technical terrain.
Some of the benefits of the trekking pole are realized after a hike. The person who had the pole will be less tired and the feet less sore as compared to the person who did not have the pole.
