if given the choice, olivia would've travelled to the country for this. perhaps she would have rented a car and driven until she was in the middle of nowhere, and then just parked on the side of the road and watched the moon. it wasn't that the view of the moon from here wasn't fine - it was, decent at least. up north where there was no light to drown out the stars? now that was spectacular.
but olivia didn't like to travel like that alone. she was small, after all, and had done enough research for the next twenty lifetimes that told her how she should avoid rural areas at night, and certainly don't go alone. as she didn't have anyone that was willing to go on an impromptu evening roadtrip, she found herself at the park. it would be good enough from here, the moon was still worth the late night for sure. so she laid back on her towel, arms crossed beneath her head casually.
โ you know, โ she started, pretty much assuming that the person settled on the towel within reach of her own - god, was nowhere in the city no longer crowded? - would no doubt respond. โ no matter how many times i watch a full moon rise, it will always blow me away with how pretty it is. โ

while this wasn't typically his type of thing, when natalie came home raving about some pumpkin spice baking challenge and begging him to enter, cody couldn't exactly come up with an excuse not to. she'd caught him off guard with the bombardment; charlie had picked her up one random morning when he'd needed a break, and he was honestly just waking up - and way too high - when she came flying through the door and launched into an overly winded explanation of the thing. he'd said yes, mostly, to shut her up.
truth be told, cody was actually a remarkable baker. he was gifted in chemistry, after all, and he considered the hobby similar enough to mixing drinks - albeit, with a few extra steps. natalie had never had a store bought birthday cake in her life, and she always encouraged him to try new recipes. so he committed to the task, so here he was with a pumpkin roll sliced into pieces in front of him and a second roll in an ice chest at his feet. just in case. he looked rather unenthused about the whole thing, but natalie was happy enough to do the upselling on her own. she was wandering the park, never straying from his line of sight, and picking random strangers to strike up a conversation before inevitably dragging them over to the bake off and straight to her father's table.
โ sorry about her, โ he muttered, nodding at the ten-year old as she skipped away from them. โ i don't get out much, and i definitely don't usually bake for other people, so she's just really excited. hope it's actually worth your departure from your plans for the afternoon. โ

"i'm makin' it clear right now, you have to pry all ten of these out of my dead cold fuckin' hands man, i'm not sharin', or splitin' or anything, and i mean that shit." he says matter-of-factly as he rubs his hands in line, now not being too far from getting rewarded for the day. it had been a long ass stressful day at the garage (as per usual) so nothing was standing in his way of having this one thing, even if it meant he cut in front of the annoying little toddlers that kept screaming and running around a few feet ahead. children were the future his ass.
the voice behind her had olivia's ears perking up in interest. she turned slowly, a playful smile tugging at her features and she let out a quiet giggle of laughter. โ you're really taking this seriously, aren't you? โ she asked, taking in his form. she noted the stains on his hands; grease and oil, the kind that never truly came clean, no matter how much you scrubbed. โ long day, then? i bet you could take down a taco for every car you worked on today. me, i'm gonna get the ten, but i doubt i can eat more than five. we'll see. โ

August was in the mood for bowling and he knew that he had a couple of friends who would join him for the game. August looked around at other lanes as he had lined himself up with the lane and he rolled the ball down the lane until it crashed into the pins which caused them to all come tumbling down except for one that wobbled back and forth a bit. "Oh come on!" He yelled out as he looked over at Cody. "I know technically that was my second turn but that would've almost been a strike." He sighed as he slumped down into the chair and sipped from his beer. "I already know you're going to beat me but I thought I had a chance to do better but I guess not."
โ second turn already proves that you weren't close to a strike, โ the brunet murmured, climbing to his feet as the machines reset the pins. he reached for his ball, tugging up against his chest as he stepped up to the lane. he hummed, bending his fingers until they popped before slipping them into the gripping holes. his eyes narrowed, arm swinging back before he threw the ball with expert precision. he didn't even bother to watch, turning back to his seat and taking a swig from his own beer bottle. โ it's alright, my guy. practice makes perfect - or so they say. maybe not conflating a spare with a strike would be a good start. โ
cody smirked, gesturing towards the screen to point out the precise X on his scorecard. โ it's your turn again. โ
