The Soporific Tales of a Not Quite Working Actor

I just returned to LA from Huntington Beach. Yes, it is indeed only a 30 mile trip, but what a difference 30 miles can make. HB is absolutely beautiful. The people are somehow nicer, the food somehow tastes better, and the beach is somehow...beachier.

It's hard to return home, leaving my wonderful family once again. But I have get to start my new improv class next week so there is at least something to look forward to. Unfortunately while on vacation for 2 weeks I had 6 auditions. Being back for 1 week I've had 2. We need to step up auditions just a LIIIITLE bit please :-)

Also on a completely related note, Da Party Ninja is in jeopardy! I received an email from Bushi saying we were waiting on "client approval" to move forward. Which stirs conflicting emotions in me. On one side being in a position where I am forced to wait on client approval is pretty awesome. Feels like I am a "real" working actor. On the other hand, fuck.

So here's hoping we have a surge of views and they pick us up for an additional set of videos!  

I got to go home for a very special occasion last week: The wedding of my younger brother Travis. And the icing on the cake is that I was the officiant! Actually, the icing on the cake was that my MN agents heard I was in town and put me on an audition, which I then booked. The new commercial for the Tile Shop will be airing in about a month or so. I will definitely post it when I get it!

Returning to a place you don't even want to be is much more difficult each consecutive time you do it. I was dreading coming back to LA. Not because I don't appreciate the business out here, because I do (hence why I DO come back), but the place is just...yucky. Being home makes me realize how much I miss fresh air. Friends. Driving over 50mph. Fresh water. Family. Fucking grass. Each time it get's a little bit harder. Perhaps someday it will feel worth it. We can only hope...

To soften the blow though, my dear mother and sister are on their way to Cali right now so we can spend our annual week in Huntington Beach (my 2nd favorite place in California). I look forward to this every year, and this year even more so because it get's me out of my ant infested dream crushing soul sucking condo. And I say that with love LA!

AC Repair Guy: I found your problem!

Me: Oh yeah what is it?

AC Repair Guy: This is a heater.

Me: ...well Fuck.

AC Repair Guy: Also, the heater fan is broken. Want me to replace it?

  Holidays. Holidays are a tough time to be away from family, friends, and loved ones. The fourth of July is a fun holiday for the Czech family. We travel to my parents cabin, pontoon, fish, fireworks in Aitkin, frisbee before hand. Lot's of fun. Lot's of together time. This year, I was alone.

  My roommates went to vegas to celebrate in style. I, being broke, elected to stay behind. I got a surprise call from an old friend who was in town visiting his girlfriend and invited me along to watch fireworks on the beach. Which is exciting, but we failed to take into account how many people would be there. As one might predict, if they took the time to think about it, finding each other within the crowds was impossible. And so, as the fireworks began to ignite, I stood alone on the fourth of July. 

 As I watched the beautiful, bright explosions in the sky, celebrating our independence, I found myself only think of my codependence. To my family. To my friends. To everything I had left behind. I found myself thinking about my family, cuddled up on the hill next to the baseball diamond in Aitkin. Laughing, Loving, Possibly playing trivia on one of my Mom's 4 iPads. Playing frisbee. Showing my adorable 1 year old nephew his first real fireworks. Did I miss the wonder in his eye? Did he see them like we see them? I may never know.

  The Holidays are a tough time to be away from the ones we love. I hope you were with yours.
