You put what in your mouth?

Denise's coworker hit up the Church of Sweden and pretty much bought out all their cinnamon and cardamom buns. Denise put this cardamom bun in her mouth, washed down with an Americano from %Arabica. Not pictured: said coffee and a bunch of Swedish candy.

Denise would eat Japanese food every day if she could. Why doesn't she just move to Japan already? Oh right, ten years of Japanese language school when she was in grade school and all she got out of was how to read basic kana and the vocabulary of a 1-year old. But! Duolingo has been her buddy for the past year and she is finally learning how to make sentences in Japanese. 難しいですよ！ So while Denise learns the language of her ancestors (none of her living relatives are fluent speakers), she hopes eating bento lunches will help by osmosis. At the very least, it’s a delicious way to learn.

Here is a cherry plum Denise put in her mouth. Small, sweet and tart. Wait, are we talking about the fruit or Denise?

Happy Lunar New Year! To celebrate, Denise put a mandarin or two in her mouth at work today. Her fingers smell quite citrusy now.

Roses are red. Chocolates are brown. Denise loves to eat Treats in midtown.

Denise's boyfriend loves to eat a variety of foods, whereas Denise can be happy eating the same thing ad infinitum. So when the boyfriend is in town, he cooks an array of recipes for their dinners, which means Denise gets to take interesting leftovers to work. Here we have sheet-pan gochujang chicken and roasted vegetables (hiding underneath the chicken) over a lofty bed of rice. There was enough for three days worth of leftovers, but we'll save you from the repetitive images.

Denise's lunch today was made by her boyfriend, someone who is always thinking two meals ahead. A love note was included in her lunch bag. And Denise did indeed get the images.

Denise hopes other will want to play in the Food Blog game again. In the meantime, it's just a showcase of her meals. Today, in this chilly weather, she put a hot bowl of salmon teriyaki, veggies, and rice in her mouth.

Denise adores Trader Joe's. Sometimes, en route to the train station during the morning commute, she will pick up a salad from TJ's to later put in her mouth.

This is Denise's default, unremarkable lunch she makes for herself when she's in a rush getting out the door in the mornings. PB&J, yogurt with homemade granola, and an apple in her mouth.

Welcome back! Since we last posted, Denise moved to New York to experience real weather, where it’s currently 13 degrees outside. Today she put some midtown Chinese food in her mouth.

Funny how time flies and here we are still in a pandemic and still putting things in our mouths to get by. Denise's lazy-default protein comes in the form of chicken nuggets. And sometimes these nuggets come in the form of dinosaur shapes. But this is not one of these times. These are just your standard, good ol', amoeba-shaped nugs.

It’s a beautiful, uncharacteristically sunny and warm(ish!) day here in SF. And what better way to enjoy an urban hike than putting this delicious mild-THC-infused donut in your mouth? We’re talking a perfectly fried brioche donut. Rich Chantilly cream. Berries glistening in their cherry glaze. All that’s missing is a good cup of coffee, but I bet you can find one on your neighborhood walk.

Well whadya know, it’s Valentine’s Day! And while Denise may not be into celebrating over a fancy, romantic dinner out, she does enjoy heart-shaped food – like this strawberry entremet – in her mouth. Like a good love story, this confection is delicious with many layers worth discovering (and gone too soon, but wanting more). 

We weep the fall of Pok Pok, Portland’s crown jewel of Thai food. But behold! We keep the memories alive through our mouths. With recipe in hand, Fore can fly with these homemade wings. A worthy tribute to a magnificent restaurant reign.

When you have leftover dough from making rolls, turn them into French bread pizza. Pete put two varieties of his favorite food in his mouth: classic pepperoni and a bbq chicken. Crunch, crunch, munch, munch.
