never stop being a good person because of bad people

a quote i keep re-reading in my head is, “you shouldn’t light yourself on fire to keep others warm.” i saw something like that on tumblr awhile back, and i feel it so hard rn. i love people so much… my family, my friends, strangers, whoever i’m interested in, etc. and i always give 100%. but if the other person isn’t giving 100% back, i’m literally giving my whole self to them and getting nothing in return. it can leave me feeling empty. it’s exhausting, and i’m starting to reconsider things. i can still love people fiercely without sacrificing my own well-being. because for so long, that’s what i’ve done. idk how i’m gonna do it but i think it’s possible. i know i deserve love. i deserve to be cared for. i deserve good things. i deserve happiness. i don’t deserve to feel empty. i can’t forget myself when it comes to love.
