Greens Fork, IN
I grew up in a large farmhouse, built in 1840, located in Greens Fork, IN. My parentâs rented the house when I was 5 years old. Being a child I donât remember much, other than a few memories and stories told to me. My mother told me at first the house was great besides the fact that it looks scary as hell and needed a lot of repairs.Â
After a few months things got spooky. Things would fly around or go missing. My brother and sister mentioned a few times that a tall man in a suit would stand outside the bedroom door. We called him Dr. Black, My parents said he was guarding us to keep us safe. Iâm not so sure about that.
I remember a time when my mom and dad were fighting. Apparently the ghosts or spirits, whatever you want to call them didnât like that. A bell came flying off the hook and hit my dad right in the head! It was crazy.Â
I should probably add that none of us would sleep or ever go upstairs once it got dark. We had two bedrooms downstairs so my brother, sister, and I all shared one. That's how scared we were.Â
Once when my older sister, Stacy decided to stay she convinced my mom to sleep upstairs with her. She woke up in the middle of the night and mom was gone. She called her name, no one answered. Then she heard mom's voice, she told her to come into the next room. She asked why my mom would be in there in the dark, but no answer. Stacy got scared and ran downstairs and sure enough my mom was sitting at the kitchen table.
In the winter we would all sleep in the living room because we only had a wood burning stove and it was hard to heat the whole house. While sleeping in there I woke up multiple times to the sound of someone going through silverware drawers, opening cabinets and doors. I remember it like it was yesterday. Just writing it gives me goosebumps.
When my nephew was born he came to stay with us. He always pointed up, with a smile on his face, and would say âdead doggy upstairs.â
The basement was always my least favorite. My parents believe it used to be an office. I guess the house was an old doctors office. It had a desk down there and a bunch of really old toys. It had five rooms and a crawl space with an old steel door. Not sure what the crawl space thing was, maybe a stove of some sort? If any of you might let me know! It still bothers me. We moved after about 6 years. Iâve tried researching the place to find out why all this weird stuff happened, but nothing came up. @sixpenceee
