((first interaction starters ask meme)) Kai was sitting at the park, reading a book for class, when a large chocolate lab bounded over to them and jumped up on the bench with them. Not to say Kai wasn't partial to dogs, but they were working, and this creature just didn't seem to want to go away. They looked around and spotted a red head of hair across the road. They called out. "Excuse me, is this your dog?"
Tom loved his walk home from work. The fresh air, the ache in his feet, that feeling that heâd done well - or, at least, not too badly. And if he walked slowly, he got to spend less time at home! With his hands stuffed deep into the pockets of his greatcoat, he hummed tunelessly and shook his head, wet hair stuck to his forehead.
âExcuse me, is this your dog?â
He turned around, squinting to see a fellow redhead across the park, and a brown furry blob next to them. He looked around, wondering if they were talking to someone else - he didnât have a dog! Heâd never have a dog! But⌠it looked like they were calling to him. Awkwardly jogging over, he kept his distance from the dog and winced, âAh⌠Sorry, no⌠Um. Does it have a collar on?â
kaitempest:
âAround for a long time, huh?â Hm, thatâs interesting. âI grew up on the island and my grandmaâs been here foreverâŚâ Kai shrugged. âMaybe I met your family when I was little and forgot.â
When Tom mentioned he worked at the market, the dog suddenly wasnât the most excited member of the trio. âOh my gosh, really?!â Kai practically leaped into the air, and quickly settled down when Tom seemed startled. The dog started barking, too, so Kai took a moment to squat and calm the furry beast. It licked their ear and they laughed.
When they stood, they made sure to hold the dog as close to their side as possible, and as far away from Tom, now that theyâd accidentally gotten it excited. âSorry, I just got a new job at the Kahi, and Iâm really excited about it. Iâm learning to make coffee! Imagine that! Anyway, anyway. What sort of food do you sell?â
âMm...â They seemed younger than him - he doubted theyâd shared any classes at the Academy. The witch shrugged, adjusting his hat. âThereâs a lot of us, so, um. I think, uh, most people have met a Fuller or two. The hair is usually, um, the t-telltale sign.â
A little taken aback, Tom skittered to one side, before regaining some composure and blushing. The dogâs barks didnât help matters, and he anxiously fidgeted from foot to foot, hands tugging at his sleeves, while he waited for Kai to make it stop. He felt more than a little out of place, lurking beside the boisterous duo and trying to avoid making eye contact with passers-by.
He smiled and shook his head, trying to look unbothered. âAh, i-itâs fine..! Oh, um, the Kahiâs nice! I donât really go there because itâs, um, easier..? To get things from the market, you know. But some of the b-baristas come to my stall s-sometimes and, um, Reiâs a friend of the family...â He trailed off for a second, before realising theyâd asked a question, âOh! Um. Mamonian f-fast food, I suppose..? Itâs, um, a lot of Japanese influences but itâs all made with things that I harvest from the island.â
