I’m a little late with this yet here I am! Happy Pride 🌈 Month!!!! Here’s some of my Pride month reads!!! Disappoint Me is about a trans woman navigating a relationship with a cis man in London. And Hemlock is a queer Midwestern gothic, that’s what it’s described as and believe me I RAN to pick this up when I heard that! Really enjoying both so far!!! Yay pride!!! 🏳️🌈
I'm so excited to start this book! I'm also in a super motivated reading mood so I will be spending the majority of this weekend just binge reading.
I also tried to make an at home coffee frappacino but it's a bit too foamy 🥲
I was so excited to pick up Fearful by Lauren Roberts because I was desperate to learn more about Kit and what truly led him to make the choices that ultimately sealed his fate. Unfortunately, I quickly realised the story takes place after those decisions had already been made, so instead of exploring his motivations, you're mostly just reading about his downward spiral. I ended up DNF'ing it at around 75% because, knowing the outcome, I found it quite a tough read and, dare I say... it was a little boring.
It was especially disappointing after absolutely loving the rest of the series, particularly Powerful, which made me completely invest in Adena and Mak's story and genuinely broke my heart (cut to me sobbing over it 😅). Fearful had so much potential to make me sympathise with Kit and feel conflicted about his choices, but instead it just felt like a missed opportunity that never delivered the emotional impact I was hoping for. So, for the sake of my own sanity, I'm choosing to pretend this novella never happened... and in my mind, the series quite happily ended with Fearless. 😅

Why 'The Elsewhere Express' is a Technicolor Masterpiece of Prose, Grief, and Moving On
If you’ve been scrolling looking for a book that will completely consume your thoughts, stop right here. I finally finished reading Samantha Sotto Yambao’s The Elsewhere Express, and to put it simply: my imagination was fed, my heart was crumpled, and I am captivated.
Here is my completely unfiltered, spoiler-free breakdown of why this book needs to be on your TBR list immediately.
Magic in Technicolor
Let’s talk about the writing style first, because wow. Samantha Sotto Yambao’s prose is a masterclass in imagery. If you love books that feel highly visual in every single description, this is your holy grail.
It is a feast for the imagination. You don't just read this book; you see it. The world-building is so vivid that every chapter feels like a living painting unfolding behind your eyelids.
There is vibrant magic. The Elsewhere Express' entire world is dipped into a palette of rich, vibrant hues and dazzling colors. Instead of the muted, gritty tones often found in modern fantasy, the magic here breathes in brilliant technicolor. It’s a sensory explosion that makes the setting feel incredibly alive and wondrous.
Raya’s Journey: The Quiet Weight of Grief
At the center of this magical locomotive is Raya.
"Grief isn't a straight line; it's a winding track."
Raya’s storyline centers on the profound acceptance of her brother's death. It is a slow burn, yes, but intentionally so. Yambao doesn't rush her healing. We watch her struggle to find her purpose and her place in a world that feels suddenly empty without him. It’s a beautifully paced, deeply relatable exploration of what it actually means to start over when your whole world has been derailed.
Q’s Journey: Finding Light in the Dark
And then, there’s Q.
Q is faced with the devastating reality of letting go of his wondrous ability to paint as he navigates his journey toward accepting his disability. Watching him find entirely new meaning in his blindness was incredibly moving. It’s a powerful, deeply human theme that so many readers will find profoundly relatable. The narrative handles his transition not as a tragedy of pure loss, but as a poignant, courageous evolution of self.
The Final Verdict
The Elsewhere Express is more than just a fantasy novel with a whimsical premise. It’s a deeply moving human story masquerading as a magical train ride. It perfectly balances the high-octane whimsy of a vivid world with the quiet, crushing reality of human resilience.
Read it for the dazzling colors, stay for the beautiful emotional depth.
“I wish for the thing that is best for me.” ― Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss
ngl Whidbey was pretty disappointing. The premise sounded really good, and I think there were a lot of interesting aspects to the novel, but it was definitely pitched wrong. This is not a thriller.
The story started off strong but I found I got really bogged down in the middle section and it never really recovered. Which is a shame because I think the topics discussed and the types of characters portrayed could open some really great conversations about trauma, and surviving abuse, and reality TV, and who society defines as sexual predators or survivors.

✩🎾💍Review:
Smeltzer serves up a delightful second chance sports romance!
“Second Serve follows estranged exes Ebba Johnson and Fisher Grant after a drunken night in Vegas leads to an accidental marriage. Instead of getting the marriage annulled right away, the two agree to see if they can make things work for the first six months. But to move forward they must confront everything that went wrong between them.
Ebba and Fisher’s love story is the perfect combination of heart and heat! Both characters are layered with many complex emotions stemming from a traumatic event that created a rift in their relationship. Alternating between Ebba and Fisher’s perspectives paint a picture of what they once had and the love that still lingers. Their marriage, unplanned as it is, not only forces them to work through their feelings, but also helps them realize how much they have grown as individuals in their time spent apart. The wistful glances, stolen touches, and sizzling “will they or won’t they” dynamic made my heart flutter! Admittedly, the pacing felt a bit fast and the back and forth between the two was repetitive at times. Still, I loved watching Ebba and Fisher find their way back to each other. Their healing journey resonates and in laying themselves bare, they are able to build something that lasts. The happiness they find in the end is nothing short of satisfying!

new read!
Strange Pictures was another slightly disappointing read for me.
I liked the gimmick of using images throughout to enhance the mystery but I felt overall it was a little convoluted and very very repetitive.
Perhaps some of it was an issue with the translation but I felt a lot of characters talked in this way I found so frustrating. There was a lot of over explaining parts of the mystery and almost bashing the reader over the head with it.
