Friday date night at @eatatjewel in #virgilvillage - our first time checking out this neighborhood gem with some creative plant-based dishes. Started with crispy blue corn tostadas with watermelon marinated to resemble tuna ceviche, with avocado, sesame and avo crema. Winner! A kale tangerine salad was made zesty with housemade almond feta and garlicky almonds. Forbidden fried black rice was tossed with kimchi, zucchini, honshimeiji mushrooms, kale, and a fiery gojuchang schmear. The Jewel Box featured Japanese sweet potato, black beans, avocado with ume kraut, garlicky greens, amaranth crunch, and miso-ginger drizzle. We accompanied with a Greek rosé from their all-natural wine list, a Thymiopoulos xinomavro with pomegranate, grapefruit, and rhubarb notes. Desert was a decadently rich brownie topped with orange-infused “cream” and orange marmalade. Everything was vegan. Everything was gluten-free.
