I want to know what you’re thinking about when I look over at you and you seem so far away. I want to know what keeps you up at night when it’s 3 am and a lot of the world is fast asleep. I want to know if you’ve ever been in love, I want to know how your heart has been broken. I want to know why you don’t feel as if you’re good enough for anyone. I want to know what hurts you you the most. I want to know, when was the last time you cried? I want to know if you love one parent more than the other and I want to know about your older siblings. I want to know why you feel insignificant all the time and I want to know why you shut people out half the time. I want to know things that no one knows about you— I want to know your deepest secrets. I want to know you trust me with these things because then I’ll feel as though I have a purpose here. I want to know what makes you happiest in this world, and I want to know what you do when you’re happy and home alone. I want to know about the way you see the world, and the way you see me. I want to know why you feel lonely even in a room full of people, because I feel it too. I want to know who you love most here and why. I want to know about your favorite form of art and how you express yourself. I want to know about all the places you’ve seen and the places you want to see. I want to know where you’ve been and where you’re going. I want to know about where you go when you’re sad. How were you before me? I want to know about your biggest mistakes. I want to know your greatest accomplishments. I want to know about your hopes and aspirations. I want to know what makes you different and I want to know why I feel this way about you. I want to know everything about you even if it takes a lifetime.

Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise.
