Severus will help him find them.

“Are you in love with her?” Severus asked, his tone quiet, yet firm.

“What?” Harry’s heart lurched at the question. He hadn’t expected it, and yet, it seemed so simple. But the answer was anything but. “What’s with that question?”

“I’m just asking, Harry. It’s a simple question. Are you in love with her?”

“Yes! No… I don’t know!” Harry’s voice cracked; a mix of frustration and fear washed over him. “What’s wrong with me? I’m not feeling anything I’m supposed to be feeling.”

“And what are you supposed to be feeling?” Severus’s voice was steady, even in the face of Harry’s turmoil.

Harry’s hand tightened around the tumbler of Firewhisky he hadn’t even realized he was still holding. 

“I don’t know,” he whispered, his voice raw. “Aren’t you my friend? You tell me!”

Severus was silent for a long moment. Then he spoke, his words careful but firm. 

“Harry, I’m not an expert in love. You know that more than anyone. But I do know it can’t be reduced to a list of traits. It’s not that simple.”

Severus sighed before he pressed his body against Harry, his hand rubbing on his back. 

“You’re not the one at fault for how you feel, Harry,” Severus said gently, his voice soothing. He leaned back slightly on the couch, his gaze steady on him. 

Severus’s gaze softened for a moment, the weight of something unspoken in his eyes. His voice, though steady, carried an undertone of something that might have been regret or wisdom earned from years of silence. Maybe, Harry thought, Severus had seen more heartbreak besides that of Lily. 

“The heart cannot be forced into something it doesn’t want,” he said quietly. “No matter how much you wish it were otherwise, you can’t change the feelings that have settled within you. No matter how much it may pain you, sometimes the kindest thing to do is to be honest about those feelings.”

Its fun working out who to cast for whom when doing a rewrite and people might be surprised by my choices for 'Mr Collins' and 'Mr Wickham'.

“I do hope you don’t think I didn’t notice you earlier, Mr Potter,” Lockhart smiled, giving Harry a smouldering look, although it just made Harry’s skin crawl. “I do like to pay compliment to my hosts first, as it is the polite thing to do, and the Weasleys have so many children. Even still, you are not someone that anyone with eyes can overlook.”

“I imagine I stand out quite a bit among all the redheads.”

Lockhart laughed. “Indeed, although, I confess, there is more than that. You have an air of intelligence about you, Mr Potter, that I am very pleased to find. The managing directors often worry that you had your father’s head for business but, I am starting to think that perhaps that isn’t the case.”

Harry bristled. “My father was a hero!” he hissed. 

“Oh of course, of course,” Lockhart agreed, “but he was also human which meant that, by nature, he had some flaws. We all do, of course, although some of us have worse flaws than others. Mine is that I am too handsome, of course, and I assure you it really is a curse. There are several people who have questioned whether I should teach at Hogwarts because they fear that the students might fall for me and it would cause a scandal.”

Snarry!!! <3 One of my fav fics from Long Summer era. I really love reading it in the holiday season. It's got this super cozy vibe. Great pacing and characterizations, tons of Shakespeare Snape :D Snark, Pining, Angst with a happy ending

Blurb: When the fix becomes the problem. They defeat Voldemort but his death destroys magic. The relationship progress is shown through conversations between Harry and Severus. They don't have their magic anymore. They are both disabled. They are in a halfway house with a lot of other disabled war veterans.. The world is a mess outside but in their room they have got books, snark and heart to hearts... and pining for each other. This story is written before OoTP and it has some of the Snape tropes popular back then like Rich and Pureblood Snape. But the characterization works convincingly because of how the story does worldbuilding.

Green Grow the Rushes, O by eldritcher. Rated M. 11400 words. Snarry - Incredibly beautiful, incredibly profound, full of rage, love, grief, regret, sacrifice, revenge, mourning and love. It embraces the drama and the whimsy of the canon including the darkness under the surface of a children's story and creates a stunning, beautiful myth. It's a fic you can sing. But also, it's a fic that sings to you. Snape is almost a hostage in this fic whether it is a hostage to Harry, McGonagall, his losses, his guilt, his relationship with his father, the eroding church and shoreline and even the constellations in the sky. We are also co-hostages with him. When he's in TOTAL disbelief of his imperfect, sexy happy ending we are right there with him :D The most atmospheric fic of its wordcount range.

Year of the Thestral by @perverse-idyll Rated E. 127200 words. Snape/McGonagall - Tragically beautiful, intense, complex picture of love, rage, betrayal, grief and loss and a whole lot of other emotions. Because folks don't feel exactly one or two emotions at any given time after experiencing intense life events like what happened to the characters during DH and nobody can write that full, unnamed range and depth of emotions with the specificity and intensity PI can. A wildfire of a fic. Like any wildfire you get some pine cones bursting and new life/new emotion in the end but it's bittersweet and you can see how the dawn poured like weak tea through the eastern windows, feel what it's like to be accepted beyond the wildest imaginings of the lank-haired, half-feral child who'd once scrambled aboard the Hogwarts Express, feverishly reaching for a better life and like Snape you are going to spend a blissful hour dreaming of the taste of tea. The most Snape Snape ever Snaped.
